Byni Myth of the Gate

The Byni Sovereign Vondi made the decision to abandon the gate and tell the Itherian overlords that it was a natural phenomenon and could not be transversed. He said many ships had been lost trying to cross through it. Over the centuries the Byni people have come to believe the same thing since the knowledge of how to cross it died with Vondi.

The stories of the Nemanoi remain however and the belief that there is a civilization on the other side that would make good business partners is still heard and taught and believed by many. But most also believe that the stories are myths and bedtime stories.

Elendil decides to find out if it is true and try to travel through the gate. When he succeeds he finds out that the Nemanoi are not only a thriving Capitalist society but they view him as a god.

Summary

The Great Sovereign Volti got a magic staff from the gods and used it to make a hole in the sky. When he went through the hole he found a blue skinned friend and they created a partnership. But then the Empire came and Volti was afraid they would hurt his friend so he waved the staff again and closed the hole in the sky forever. Since that day many have tried to open the hole again but all who have entered it have been torn to shreds.

Historical Basis

Volti did in fact create the Watchers Eye Gate and then when the Empire came he refused to tell them how to pass through it. That secret died with him and now though the gate exists no one has been able to travel through it without their ship being torn apart.

Spread

It is a children's bedtime story and most all Byni have heard it.

Variations & Mutation

The magic staff received from the gods was actually a piece of tech that Volti invented to transmit the necessary frequencies and open the gate.

Cultural Reception

Only the Byni believe this. The Itherians are sure that Volti lied to them and they have tried many times to travel through the gate. Without the proper frequency settings it is impossible to do it safely.

In Literature

It is a common bedtime story with small variations in the telling allowed.

In Art

The gate is a common subject of painting because it is so beautiful. Music also extols the virtues of Sovereign Volti and his magic staff.

Date of First Recording
