Lor'thelas
Lor'thelas, with its labyrinthine waterways and gracefully constructed wooden structures seamlessly blending with the surrounding environment, stands as a testament to the Lorethians' dedication to natural harmony. The city-state has earned preeminence among Dragon Ridge city-states, excelling in trades such as forestry, agriculture, carpentry, and leatherworking. The Wood Wailers, a militant band of polearm-wielding sentries, vigilantly guard the homeland, ensuring the safety and sanctity of Lor'thelas.
The citizens of Lor'thelas hold deep reverence for Loxotl, the Scaled Empress, their favored goddess. However, the wisdom of the Seedseers, young oracles attuned to the will of the forest's elementals, is also highly esteemed. These oracles play a crucial role in guiding the nation, providing insights based on the elemental spirits' guidance.
Elementals in the Black Shroud surrounding Lor'thelas are woven into the fabric of Lorethian culture. Occupants of the city-state both respect and fear these powerful entities, acknowledging their influence in all aspects of life. To maintain a harmonious relationship, the Lorethians engage in festivals and ritual dances, serving as a means of appeasement and communication with the elemental forces.
The elementals act as guardians, watching over observant Lorethians. Normally, they have the power to control creatures of the forest, using them to repel outsiders. To prevent unintentional harm, a mystical barrier known as the Hedge shields outsiders from the violent elemental nature referred to as "woodsin" or "woodwrath." However, this protective barrier occasionally falters, leading to instances where those affected by woodwrath must undergo purification through ritual dance to restore balance and harmony.
In this city-state, the intertwining of elemental spirituality with daily life creates a unique and enchanting cultural tapestry. Lor'thelas embodies not only a physical sanctuary but also a spiritual haven where the Lorethians strive to maintain equilibrium with the mystical forces that define their existence.

Lor'thelas, born in the aftermath of the Umbral Era around the 8t hyear of the Second Astral, has a history deeply intertwined with the mystical forces of the Black Shroud. The city-state's origins can be traced back to a significant flood that motivated elemental spirits, including naiads, nymphs, ents, and more, to take a more active role in the region.
The Elementals and Fey of the Black Shroud took charge of the forest and banished any members of the sentient races. They allowed the Kenku to inhabit the forest for a time but when they began to overuse the logs of the trees in order to build their balloons, the Elementals banished them as well.
Meanwhile, groups of Halflings, humans and elves had retreated into the network of caves beneath, forming a working society that eventually became the city of Thun'dorak. However, while the Thun'doraki were able to live comfortably beneath the ground, some still longed for the surface and looked for ways to communicate with the Elementals.
During this tumultuous period, a skilled Conjurer successfully communicated with these elemental guardians, laying the foundation for the birth of Lor'thelas. The city emerged as a haven where the Lorethians, guided by the Padjal Council—spiritual leaders blessed with special insights—sought to harmonize their lives with the mystical forces surrounding them.
The Wood Wailers, a vigilant band of polearm-wielding sentries, were established to protect Lor'thelas from external threats. The Lorethians' commitment to natural harmony, sustainable practices, and spiritual communion with the elementals shaped the city's unique culture.
Over the years, Lor'thelas has flourished into a mosaic of wooden structures, waterways, and lush greenery, reflecting the Lorethians' dedication to coexistence with the natural world. Ritual dances, festivals, and the maintenance of the mystical Hedge barrier became integral parts of the city's identity, fostering a deep connection between the citizens and their elemental guardians.
