The North Fork

The headwaters of the North Fork of the Lifien originate somewhere in the mired swampland in the north-east portions of the valley. Exactly where it begins is hard to say, as few venture far into the swamps, and those who do have little desire to share what they know with outsiders.   The waters clear as the river turns south, and soon it begins winding through the low hills and farmlands around the town of Kor. It dives into forests before joining with the South Fork at the town of Oss.

Natural Resources

With rich soil and easy access to water, the fields around the North Fork were ripe for farming. The remains of the grain stores brought over the mountains grew quickly, and local varieties of gourds and nut trees began to be cultivated.   Further away from the river, larger grasslands began to be used by goatherds as they began developing hybrids between the native Blackwell goats and the smaller goats that survived the trip across the mountains. There were also several failed attempts at domesticating the large Valley Bison.   Grain, tree nuts, and wool and derivative products are the region's main exports.

History

When the Refugees descended into the valley, they found themselves on the edges of the Marshes. Following around the edge of the swamp, they found the river. This they followed into the valley, stopping at the place that would eventually become Kor to settle for the winter. It would be several decades before a real town developed.   As the population in the area grew, farms began springing up along the river. Barges began sending goods downstream to Oss and Vedan, with some making their way upstream towards Zasev on the South Fork. A centralized shipping hub was eventually needed, and Kor was officially founded.
