Session 6: The Light on the Map

General Summary

For Geneviève the rest was short. After a short breather, where she removed her armour, the strangely focused legionnaire grabbed her spear and headed off. The rest watched this from a table where they were planning on eating, and Ki’tor asked confoundedly what was going on. Upon an extremely shortened version of the previous night’s event the sorcerer rose to his feet and stormed after Geneviève. He caught up to her as she left the smith’s workshop, where she told him that their assumption that Efran Colt had been the smith’s son as well as apprentice were wrong. Instead she was redirected to the boy’s real parents. Ki’tor decided to follow along for moral support.

Geneviève knocked on the door and a man with dried out tears reddening his eyes opened. He introduced himself as Thom Colt. He had already heard of his son's fate from the miners. The frankonian offered to elaborate on what actually happened, all in order to reveal her own involvement in the boy’s fate and the steps she had taken to try and rectify her debt. She was invited inside, but the boy’s mother was in no state to attend. Geneviève then went on to tell Thom exactly what happened to his son. She then clarified that she had sent word to her benefactor about the incident and that a sum of gold would be delivered to the Colt family as recompense. But she also informed him that it would be completely within his rights, and even just, to claim Geneviève’s life in return. She presented her spear to the man, should he’ve wished to use it. The man rose to his feet. Walked over to the warrior. Then he embraced her in forgiveness. He told her that he held no grudge and that he blamed himself more than any other. But he also shared a sentiment with the young woman about how one cannot live in the past and the dangers of dwelling on the if:s.

Ki’tor and Geneviève left the house and rejoined the rest of the group where they shared a whiskey-filled memorial for Pierre-Pascal. Despite the fact that Geneviève still held out a glimmer of hope for her brother since no body was found, they shared memories of the fallen champion. When they had finished Jane and Ki’tor went to meet with Galvatorix, while Zalia and Geneviève discussed their differences and what had happened the night before. Upon reconvening with the dragon spirit, Ki’tor and Jane managed to get going on the restoration of a magical map with which they could locate more planestones. This restoration would take three days to complete.

During the first of the three days, Geneviève fetches her legal papers from the Elder Velsa and Ki’tor transcribes other maps from the ancient Hall of Galvatorix. On the second day, Zalia managed to find an old spell scroll which she fed to her book. The spell allowed her to get a perfect sense of what time it was. When the last day arrived, Zalia overheard a rumor about living oozes disturbing trade routes from the mountains to the north. The group went to talk to the trade delegate from the dwarven kingdoms and to Genevièves delight they were offered a contract to rid the paths of these pests. In the meantime the magic map-table was completed and activated. Upon activation the map detected a shard in the middle of a lake north of the Allerdale Mountains in the Duchy of Helonia. Not willing to rush into any danger, the group decided to take some time to prepare their next move. Meanwhile, Ki’tor spent the night gambling.
