Rockspine Peninsula
They say a people reflect the land in which they live. Nowhere is this more clear than with the people of Nuveaux. Their land is rocky, desolate, and cold much as the Nuvoans, themselves.
Geography
This massive peninsula is not only bordered by mountains, but also has a mountain range running down the center. This leaves the area extremely rocky and unforgiving. The coastline is dominated by sharp rocks that play havoc with any ships in the area. For the most part, only the Nuvoans know where it is safe to sail.
As a place in the far north, the Rockspine Peninsula has bitterly cold winters, and mild summers. One of the most unpleasant parts of the local climate is the terrible humidity and frequent rain that turns to snow in the wintertime.
Fauna & Flora
Due to the rocky terrain, very few plants grow, and those that do have very little use to the ecosystem. The nonmagical fauna includes things such as lynxes, mountain goats, and bighorn sheep. Of magical creatures, perytons and harpies are especially common, and basilisks are found as well. Both silver and red dragons fly the skies.
Few sentient beings live here. The people of Nuveaux have ports up and down the rocky coast. A few of the hardier orc tribes also live here, but these are a serious rarity as most live further east.
The main creatures of note are the sirines. These fey creatures live in the trickiest parts of the coastline and use their enchanting song to lure men to them for food and breeding. The Nuvoan tradition of having women at the helm stems from this. Unsubstantiated rumors state that any woman seduced by them is transformed into a sirine, herself.
Natural Resources
It is generally assumed that the mountains of the Rockspine Peninsula are essentially a wasteland. It is rumored, however, that the treasures of ancient peoples can be found here, free for the taking. Most who seek such treasures do not return, leaving the reports unconfirmed.
It is generally believed, especially by dwarves that the untapped mineral wealth of the mountains is immense. The dangerous inhabitants, humanoid and otherwise, have discouraged development, even by that hardy and stubborn people.
