Akrenavi of Vaustille-Kalos

Show spoiler
Homo elfen, primarily referred to as Akrenavi but sometimes as Elf, are the primary surviving species of the genus Homo (Human) after Homo sapiens, Homo erectus, Neanderthal, and others went extinct.
Akrenavi are very similar in appearance to the Mulfaer (Humans) from Earth, but are characterized by a more slender build and long, pointed ears that slope back.

They possess an ability to channel Magick and have low matter control of solids, liquids, and gases.

Naming Traditions

Feminine names

Regardless of what language they speak, most Akrenavi refer to the ancestral Akrenavian language when naming.

Some examples of feminine names are: Elysia, Fheiora, Kiarin

Masculine names

Some examples of masculine names are: Jhodus, Jeirouk, Nolneir

Family names

Not all do, but many Akrenavi carry a family name throughout their generations simply for familial identification between members of family when needed. They do not flaunt their family name or use it as a badge of honor however. Most include an identifying secondary (akin to a middle) name to differentiate themselves when another bearing their same primary name is present or being discussed.

Common Dress code

Generally, dressing in a way that is garish and eye-catching enough to stimulate the attentions of an Akrenavi of the opposite sex is reserved for attempts at mating. Akrenavi are not attracted to sexual organs, nor their size, so wearing comfortable clothing that may be more loose-fitting and revealing but is not brightly colored is considered normal and acceptable. There are those in modern society who still want to dress in colorful or fancy clothing, but they know the risks of the signal they are sending in doing so. That is why wearing a black or gray hat or cap has become considered a sign that someone has no interest in being approached for mating.

One exception to the rule tends to be celebrities and adventurers. Many adventurers dress in colors that help them blend in and not attract the attention of possible enemies, but some like to stand out so that their signature appearance will be easily recognized. The same can be said of many celebrities.

Foods & Cuisine

Because the flow of Magick sustains them, the majority of Akrenavi do not prepare foods. Since food is more of a recreational and comfort item, they eat what someone else has created (typically made by a species that does not process magick and needs to eat to survive).

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

It depends on the specific location and culture, but the Akrenavi living in Vaustille-Kalos are generally only concerned with their personal appearance when they are attempting to attract a mate. There is rarely any social or advertising pressure to look more attractive or sexy. Personal hygiene is still followed for one's own health and mental wellbeing. By reserving the application of makeup and eye-catching clothing for mating, it also makes those who want the attention more obvious to the opposite sex so that there are less confusing signals being sent by anyone not wanting to be sexualized.

Gender Ideals

Gender ideals are not pushed. There is an understanding that some physiques are better suited for some task demands, just as some individuals are better suited mentally for certain tasks, and that some individuals just want to try whatever lies in their interests of pursuing. There are no harsh judgements or stereotyping, and recommendations to try something different are made with the wisdom and intention of being helpful. Bottom line: Whoever shows or can learn the ability to do a task well should be allowed to do so.

Relationship Ideals

Akrenavi are often most motivated to mate for offspring, not for sexual pleasure. The gestation period is only three months, and the baby is usually matured and educated enough to live on its own after five or six years. The father may hang around to help raise the child or check in from time-to-time during that period, but it is not required, and marriages for the sake of a couple staying together are rare.

When Akrenavi do bond and choose to live together; being often more than two individuals in such cases; it is usually for the sake of having very similar interests, business partnerships, or protection in numbers, but there are no required forms to do so.
