Bounty Hunter
Bounty hunters are public agents or individuals who could be hired to capture or kill a designated target. The target would have a price or bounty on their heads that would be collected by the bounty hunter upon successful capture or proof of death.
Career
Qualifications
Technically, anyone can become a bounty hunter, but to become a legally recognized bounty hunter, certification is required in the bounty hunting profession to ensure the legality of the processes involved, specifically the handling of wanted quarry and the delivery of a posted bounty by the issuing authority. Working alongside local governments, the Bondsmen's Guild, abbreviated to "BMG," expedited much of the bureaucratic hassle required to obtain the necessary legal permits for Guild members, allowing them to hunt across the Trench with an official license.
Payment & Reimbursement
Traditionally bounty hunters are paid in money. But due to the scarcity of coinage in the Trench, most work off of barter. Rewarded with something equal to the monetary value of their commission. Elite bounty hunters are known for charging astronomical prices for their commission.
Perception
Purpose
A bounty hunter is a private agent working for bail bonds commpany or an individual who captures fugitives or criminals for a commission or bounty. The occupation, officially known as bail enforcement agent, or fugitive recovery agent, has traditionally operated outside the legal constraints that govern police officers and other agents of the state.
In the Trench, Bounty hunters are individuals who could be hired to capture or kill a designated target. The target would have a price or bounty on their heads that would be collected by the bounty hunter upon successful capture or proof of death.
Social Status
Much as in the times of the American Frontier, bounty hunting is often romanticized and made to seem more glamorous than it really is. Most bounty hunters are not bloodthirsty contract killers but people down on their luck with no other alternative to make money.
Opinions on hunters tend to vary from community to community. Bounty hunters are said to be greedy and amoral. Willing to kill anyone for money. While others are venerated as "men of the law" who punish evil-doers. A bounty hunter's status is also determined by the experience of the hunter in question. Young newcomers to the profession are quickly labeled as naive fame-seekers with death wishes. While experienced and renowned hunters are known as dangerous and ruthless killers.
Operations
Tools
There is no standard for equipment for bounty hunters. They must buy all of their equipment for themselves.
Workplace
The profession of bounty hunting takes one all over the Trench. There are several areas of the Trench that bounty hunters refer to as "open country." If an area is open country, it means that there are no laws and a person can go there and function as a bounty hunter with no restrictions.
Provided Services
Bounty hunters are private individuals hired to track, capture or kill a designated target or object. These targets are usually dangerous fugitives too cunning, dangerous, or hard to track than local law enforcement or large organizations is capable of. The hunting and tracking skills of bounty hunters along with their unconventional tactics and gear can ensure the acquisition of the target as loud or subtly as their client's discretion prefers. Bounty hunters may also be hired as temporary bodyguards for powerful figures or as protectors for small settlements. However, bounty hunters nearly always have more than one gig going on at a time, with no particular loyalty to any creature whose payroll they might be one.
Dangers & Hazards
"The live ones are worth more than the dead ones." -General rule of appendage for bounty hunters
Bounty hunting is an inherently dangerous profession. Much more than most realize and will chew up the unprepared.
It's not the sort of life that suits everyone. It's scary and dangerous. While also dealing with the same dangers as anyone living in the Trench, bounty hunters experience them on a more frequent basis as their job entails willingly putting themselves into those situations. A bounty hunter can be away from home for weeks at a time and not see their loved ones. There is also no guarantee that a hunter will be successful on their mission, or even return alive.
There is also the threat of retribution. A hunter can create a lot of enemies for themselves during their career. Some of whom may single out a hunter to enact revenge.
