The Barrens
A region of the Outer Rim which was devestated by an Ultimate Nullifier blast.
The region is officially sealed under the Pan-Worlds Treaties, due to risks presented by the fallout of the blast. However, a number of criminal organisations have set up permanent or temporary bases in the area, since they can opperate with impunity in the area, provided they take sufficient precautions to protect themselves from the toxins.
In 2002, when Nebula was critically injured during the massacring of the Dorcaernir, the first of Thanos's massacres in which she played an active part, Gamora took her sister to a well-known black market surgeon, Dr. Mandibus, who worked out of the Barrens, in the hope that Thanos would not learn of Nebula's failure. Her deception was uncovered, and they were both severely punished for the deception.
