Battle of Stuttgart
Shortly after arriving on Earth and taking control of a number of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. scientists, Loki made a very public appearance at a gala in Stuttgart, Germany.
This was part of a plan for Bobbi Morse to steal a supply of iridium, needed for Erik Selvig's portal, which was successful. However, it was also intended to draw out Earth's heroes, the nascent Avengers.
This goal was achieved, resulting in a fight between Loki and the allies Captain America and Iron Man.

Prelude
The battle was the second engagement of the Chitauri Invasion, following Loki's arrival on Earth and attack on the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility.
Outcome
Loki was captured by the allied heroes, and taken back to Hellicarrier 64, leading to the Attack on the Helicarrier by Bobbi Morse, and to Thor meeting and allying himself with the heroes of Earth.
