  • Though the Aslan economic system is traditionally decentralized (with clans issuing local scrip or barter equivalents), the Yahai enjoys near-universal trust due to:
  • Yerlyaruiwo’s military and political dominance
  • The alloy’s inherent value
  • The ceremonial backing of Yahai as honor-bound trade tokens
HONOR & MONEY:   Aslan cultural values treat currency not merely as a transactional medium, but as a reflection of honor and social standing. Yahai are:
  • Given as gifts to seal contracts
  • Used in bride-pride negotiations
  • Accepted as weregild in settlement of blood feuds
  • Displayed in clan rituals as part of an individual or pride’s wealth
YAHÁI IN INTERSTELLAR TRADE
  • Yahai are accepted at all Hierate trade ports, and recognized in many Imperium-border systems, especially within the Trojan Reach and Riftspan Reaches
  • Some Imperial merchants collect Yahai for their artistic and exotic appeal
  • Despite the availability of digital currencies, physical Yahai remains in use, especially in clan-to-clan trade, ritual exchanges, and transactions involving honor-bound negotiations

History

Historical Note:   The Yahai’s origins trace back to pre-interstellar Aslan civilization, where circular medallions were exchanged as symbols of honor-debt, war tribute, and clan obligation. These tokens were not simply currency but physical manifestations of social contracts—honor made tangible. They were traded during rites of passage, blood-feud settlements, and diplomatic marriages.   As the Aslan Hierate entered the interstellar age, these tokens became increasingly difficult to standardize, leading to disputes over value, legitimacy, and ancestral origin. The need for a uniform, trusted currency became evident as clans expanded into the Great Rift and Riftspan Reaches, where frontier honor needed firm financial backing.   The turning point came with the rise of the financial mega-corporation Keawea Ftaowai’i—Claw of the Coin—founded by the matron Ka’tiyah Keawea Syoisuis of Clan Syoisuis, one of the Tlaukhu's most secretive and calculating powers. Ka’tiyah, a visionary in matters of honor-led commerce, recognized that without clan-neutral trust in currency, trade would collapse beneath ritual and tradition.   Backed politically by the Syoisuis and logistically by frontier clans like Ahroay’if, Keawea Ftaowai’i created the first universally accepted Yahai minting standard. With operational authority granted by the Tlaukhu and economic weight backed by Clan Yerlyaruiwo, the Yahai became not just a coin, but a symbol of unity across the Hierate.   Keawea Ftaowai’i’s network of secure vaults and ceremonial banks, beginning from Kusyu and expanding across the Trojan Reach, Riftspan Reaches, and Gateway Domain, made the Yahai both practical and sacrosanct. In doing so, the corporation married traditional honor with modern economics, ensuring that even at the far edges of Hierate space, a coin still carried a name, a promise, and a history.
