Uhtred Thargash (OO-tred THAR-gash)
Uhtred Thargash, Halvorson
Uhtred Thargash (Uhtred of the Strong Spirit). is a half-human half-orc warrior who grew up under the guidance of his father, Halvor, a revered Warchief and well-known warrior. Uhtred lost his mother, Vala, under mysterious circumstances when he was just a few years old. Raised in a village of orcs, Uhtred often struggled with his identity as a half-orc, being physically smaller and weaker than his peers. This led to frequent bullying during his childhood, though he never gave up. Uhtred’s grandmother, the village wisewoman, played an essential role in his upbringing, teaching him much of what he knows about the world.
Despite these hardships, Uhtred grew up with a kind, thoughtful, and earnest nature. He deeply loves his father and constantly worries about living up to his father's legacy and honor. He is hardworking and single-minded, focusing on serving his people and bringing honor to his family.
Mental characteristics
Failures & Embarrassments
Despite his numerous successes, Uhtred has faced his share of failures and embarrassments. One of his earliest memories of failure was during his youth when, as a smaller and weaker orc, he struggled to keep up with his peers in the traditional combat training. He would often be defeated in duels, which caused great shame, not only for him but also for his family. Being the son of a powerful Warchief only heightened this sense of failure, as he constantly felt the weight of his father's reputation on his shoulders. This led to feelings of inadequacy, which he carried with him well into adulthood.
Mental Trauma
The loss of his mother when he was a few years old left a deep scar on Uhtred's psyche. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance were shrouded in mystery, and he grew up without any clear answers. This event, combined with the pressures of living up to his father's legacy, caused Uhtred to experience bouts of self-doubt and anxiety. He fears that, like his mother, he may one day disappear or fail to protect those he loves.
Uhtred's childhood was marked by isolation and bullying. Being smaller and weaker than most of his peers in a village of orcs made him a target. His cousin Ver'gul, the largest and strongest warrior in the clan, was Uhtred's biggest tormentor. Ver'gul saw Uhtred as a disgrace to their family and made sure Uhtred felt it at every opportunity. While Uhtred's other cousins, Igmut and Matuk, were not as openly cruel as Ver'gul, they never showed him kindness either, leaving Uhtred feeling alone and outcast for most of his early life. The constant ridicule and ostracization weighed heavily on Uhtred’s mind, making him question his worth and placing immense pressure on him to prove himself, not only to his clan but to his father, whose honor he was desperate to uphold.
