The Vallencourt Hegemony
Vallen the Old Realm holds the self-claimed most noble and ancient of the Great Nations, Vallencourt is ruled by Almightiest Hegemon Zuruk Iltor III, son of Iltor son of Iltor son of Valtor, of House Wens. In truth, some would say Vallencourt is a corrupt, former colonialist nation buckling under the weight of centuries of economic bloat. Ruled by the four-headed political ensemble of the Guilds, the Church, the Houses, and the Hegemonic Dynasty, Vallencourt remains the cultural hegemonic power of the Realms, though some say, under bated breath, that it shall soon buckle under revolution or economic despair.
Structure
The Hegemony has three official ruling bodies one unofficial.
The Imperial Body belongs to Hegemon Zuruk III of House Wens and ostensibly provides royal power through the whole government, though the throne's power can be restricted by the Council of Magistrates.
The Council of Magistrates has the power to make the Hegemon step down should he prove to be a despot. They propose legislature which can be approved or vetoed by the Hegemon.
The Noble Houses were once the front and center of feudal party politics. Fiefdoms are ruled by a fief whose land size corresponds to noble titles (earl, baron, viscount, marquis, so forth). Often these lords handle the local politics

Territories
Vallen itself. Naturally (as well as politically) the old heart of Vallen is divided between the four cardinal directions. The southern peninsula is a semi-arid region separated by a gentle mountain range; the center of the region is comprised of great rolling fields and sparse wood; the northeast of gentle marshes and rolling hills; the west fair weather, gentle breeze, and beautiful coasts. The Twin Isles are renowned for their beauty (as well as their political unrest) and hold azure waters teeming with fish and life. Finally, the north holds the traditional dwarven lands and the Blue Mountains, named after the dark blue rock which paints a striking image when the sun dawns on the mountains. The sun is golden and warm, and a singular moon rises and sets around the land of Vallen, which adheres to four temperate seasons.
Military
The military of Vallencourt includes the Royal Navy, the Royal Army, and the Royal Guard. All three, particularly the navy, are considered quite prestigious, though now spend most of their time fighting beasts and quelling revolt.
Foreign Relations
Wiltish Federation - Vallencourt retains increasingly strained ties with the Federation. A former colony, the Federation has long since come into its own as a paranoid and isolationist state. Vallencourt pressures the Federation into economic trade and support and is rejected. Some say conflict may occur.
The High Kingdom - Neutral-to-poor. The High Kingdom presses Vallencourt into support for their war, but other than mercantile companies for hire, their plea goes unmet. Formerly the two enjoyed semi-positive relations due to similar ideals and the idea of elven superiority, but this wanes.
The Philosopher's Republic - Friendly and competitive. The two battle over university learning and prestige, with either university poaching academics from the other. The Republic is more aloof and mettles little with other Great Nations.
The Spire's Kin - poor. Old wars and crusades have strained the relation between both nations, though by now Vallencourt simply does not bother itself with the far-off nation, prefering them to invade and pester the High Kingdom to itself.
The Rim - The Rim as unconquered territory is of question to many who would presume Vallencourt to be the first to attempt to claim and colonize it. Though many from Vallen have sojourned to this end in the Rim, they have done so independently. Some presume a full manifest destiny situation has not occured yet due to economic strife in the Hegemony's coffers.
