Chapter XIII-Gaurwaith and Drakathar the Black

The 1st and 2nd of Arcanum, 3250 C.R.

General Summary

Upon Duvall grabbing the magical sword, Gaurwaith , the wraith let out an unholy cry and four shadowy spirits passed through the walls of the crypt, and attacked the adventurers. Theolin Windsplitter recognized them as the same dark spirit he and previous companions battled in the cellar of the ruined ruined tower belonging to the long dead wizard, Eralion.

The battle with the ghastly undead commenced. Deimos the Devoted summoned his holy faith in the gods and succeeded in banishing the shadowy spirits and his companions focused their efforts on the Baron's wraith. The fight was over quickly with Duvall in possession of the sword of Oathheath. The group decided to shut the door to the secret burial chamber of Celinad's first emperor and rest.

Salvador Arturo Thomas Licavoli (call him 'Sal') used his wizardry to identify the magic items found in the hoard in the throneroom now being worn and wielded by the adventurers, including the powers of Gaurwaith.

Fully rested, the warriors marched back through the crypt and prepared to face the menace of Drakathar the Black himself.

Drakathar lain in wait for the adventurers and after a brief parley session with the wizard, Sal, Drakathar revealed the following information for the heroes.

"I was approached by a black cloaked human leading a group of other similarly garbed mortalss. I could sense an evil about him that rivaled my own. The cloaked one struck a bargain with Drakathar. A group of humans were coming to invade my territory, and plunder my lair. He asked in return for this information that he and his followers and a specific person (matching the description of Vanth) of the robbers be spared and that he be allowed to take this person captive and leave the ruins with him. The hooded man also stated that more adventurers would be coming in the weeks ahead, seeking the same.

I was entertained by this bargain, so he agreed to it. I slew the expedition from Oathheath and left the one that the cloaked and hooded evil identified alive. A smaller one garbed in a black cloak and hood grabbed the younger bearded man-flesh, tied him with rope, and rode to the northwest on horseback. I heard the hooded one tell his minions to wait a full cycle of the moon and then to meet him in the Witchwood. In the interim, the black cloaks were to slay anyone that came looking for the human or a sword. And they might well have, but I ate them."

Then Drakathar moved to attack and the adventurers were soon in for their toughest fight ever. Quickly surrounded Drakathar and preventing his escape by taking flight, the warrior used blade, arrow, and spell to overcome the hard-as-iron scaly dragon hide. The adventurers did not walk away unscathed as Deimos was awarded with a large scar from the dragon's claws for his efforts. But in the end, the five adventurers won victory over the dreaded Drakathar the Black as the wyrm laid dead at their feet.
