Spirit of Adventure

The Spirit of Adventure

even the ones diving headfirst into the unnecessary danger need someone to protect them...

Symbols and Appearance

Often depicted as a wounded mortal in one of many shapes, this god uses a tattered cloak as their symbol. Sometimes they are also shown as a dragon.

Domains and Worship

Worship is most often conducted in the most dire of moments, a quick prayer before running through a likely trapped corridor, a thought to the Spirit of Adventure when you recognize that you are hopelessly lost or maybe if you want to be prepared exceptionally well, before you start your endeavour.
The Spirit of Adventure protects all that try something new, all that challenge themselves, as well as those that are in dire need of support. Many say that the Spirit of Adventure also looks out for the idiots and fools of the world, ensuring that they stumble into something worthwhile from time to time.

Followers and Temples

A brave scout venturing out into an unknown forest, the denizens of a recently built frontier town, a scared dungeoneer diving into a ruin filled with traps and anyone about to undertake an endeavour they have no way of knowing how it will end. All of them have in common that they pray to the spirit of adventure, hoping to receive a blessing of luck to ensure their survival and success.
Temples are kept simple and are often adorned with relics and items brought back from dangerous journeys, a merchant may bring coins from another land and proudly display them, while others put up trophies from the monsters they bested, right next to a tome someone recovered from the trap-riddled library of a long dead mage.
The Fools really blessed you, to find something like that, randomly after such an ordeal...

History

Not too long after the Darkness was banished by the gods, the Spirit of Adventure came to be. Some say that in life they were a devout follower of the Journey, unsatisfied with following the trodden paths, intent on making their own, striking out into the unknown and eventually finding their death in some unknown location.
Their bravery was rewarded and they took up the mantle of godhood. What exactly happened remains unknown, despite best efforts to trace back the many stories we have. Each and every nation, each and every city, each and every land have their own story about how exactly the Spirit of Adventure came to be.

Legends and Myths

A Strong Contender
In the Northern Realms it is often said that the Spirit of Adventure used to be part of a group, one that worked different odd jobs here and there. It is told that they eventually came across a dying god that was tired of life and challenged them, promising to give them its power if only they managed to pass its trials.
The group set out to conquer this challenge, unaware that one of their own planned to seize the power for themselves. Eventually they took their chance and locked their former friends in an ancient tomb, after a long battle and claimed the prize for themselves.

A Clever Choice
The Middlelands tell a slightly different story, one in which the Spirit of Adventure was just that. An adventurer of unknown origins that managed to find an ancient artefact within a ruin that had long been forgotten, being trapped in there, slowly starving as their only way out had been blocked off.
Desperate they tried to find any way to survive, with a combination of skill and pure luck, they managed to unlock the power of that artefact, supposedly being granted godhood by it.

Blessed by the Dragons
This legend is often told, with variations, in the Southern Reaches. It describes how the Spirit of Adventure was nothing but a lowly orphan, one that was forgotten and left. They were nothing but a child, forced to make a living in any way they could.
It is said that the Dragons noticed their tenacity and will, deciding to take them under their wing. There they prospered and became a paragon of virtue, sharing spoils of their adventure with the needy. During Dragonfall, they dies trying to protect the young. As a reward for their selfless bravery, they were ascended to godhood, often appearing in a draconic form to honour their roots.

Cloak of Godspeed

When the Spirit of Adventure took up the mantle of godhood, their cloak fell to the ground, now obsolete. It was however infused by the divine power of the newly minted god. It is said to grant protection and great speed, on foot and in thought, to whoever is wearing it.
This artefact is currently in possession of a minor noble family within the Southern Reaches. Requests to study it further have been declined by the head of the house, who insists on wearing it herself.

There are heavily debated rumours about a belt which was supposedly blessed by the Spirit of Adventure. Those that claim to have seen it say that it would protect against a great deal of danger, shielding the wearer from poison, fire and blunt damage.
It was aquired by a wealthy noble, who planned to have it authenticated. It was unfortunately lost in transportation, during a pirate raid on the ship carrying it.
