The Isles themselves are an enigma to all those that dare to try and understand them. Physically located southwest of the coasts of the Southern Reaches, far removed from any major landmass, they should not be supporting civilized life.
Yet, we find a plethora of ruins there, from many different ages, styles and races. The most striking among those are the ones made from a seamless black stone. Very few of these ruins have also been found in the Southern Reaches and fragments of those have made their way into the hands of baffled scholars. But nowhere are they so plentiful, so well preserved and yet still so enigmatic.
The Isles keep moving around, without ever stopping. The smaller islands can somethimes be observed when they move, often with an almost frightening and unnatural speed. Some of the larger Islands are semi-stable and only move very slowly, rarely smaller communities make their homes there. These are often made up from the pirates that live in the Isles, choosing a more peaceful life. Only the island at the centre of the Isles is unmoving, it is where the pirates have erected their so called capital city of Tortuga. It has become a place of cutthroats, murderers and thieves, making investigations into the unmoving nature of the island borderline impossible.
