The Northern Realms always had to struggle with the land itself, though through that they have learned to love it dearly. Split between three major alliances, they recently emerged from what is now called The Long War. During this time a new Empire emerged, which attempted to also subjugate the Lords and Ladies of the Border, who protect Cerunna's Woods as well as the Independent Kingdoms, with their cities built from ice and snow.

The Middlelands are suffused by strange necromantic energies, keeping the dead as well as the undead tethered to the land. It is most noticable in the Clanlands, where the old ways are still kept, their villages protected by their ancestors, sometimes with wisdom and somethimes with violence. Best known however, are the Free Cities, a loose alliance of cities and their councils, bickering and fighting amongst each other over the qualitiy and skills of their artisans. Lastly only the Order of the Rose keeps a fortress where they conduct their mysterious arcane studies.

The Southern Reaches are controlled by the Seven Families and their dragon patrons, while the former empire of the Queng-Ho is slowly and silently working on regaining their former glory. An old system is now breaking down, putting the region into new turmoil. There is, off course, also the city of Dragonfall. An accursed place that will bring doom to all that are banished there, only few adventurers dare to venture deep into its bowels, and even fewer return to the tell their tale.
