Lords and Ladies of the Border

Overview

The Lords and Ladies of the Border have always been exactly that - of the border. They are not a true part of the Northern Reaches, yet we would not miss them. They are also not a part of the Clanlands either, but still follow many of their traditions, their adherence to the large family structures to which they swear allegance instead of a proper state is a testament to that.
 

History

The history of these lands is only fragmentarily preserved. In the thick woods only few larger and permanent structures are built and most inportantly survive the test of time. Frequent incursions from the Clanlands have taught the people not built anything that can't be easily rebuilt.

Members

The Family Woolahan

The family that has held on to power for the longest amount of all. Their lands right at the centre, providing a very useful waypoint.
They are usually not interested in global politics, preferring to stick with their own internal bickering. The many branches of the family are often occupied with scheming against each other, the position of the head of the house often changing on a monthly basis.
They are shrewd merchants and very capable in clinging to their coin and power.
 

The Family Monaghan

The family leading the coalition against the Empire, they have been subdued for now. Cutting them out and replacing them is currently not an option and they have to be pacified in another way.
Their lands may be small, but their armies are skilled and well trained. The head of the family holds a long lasting grudge against the family von Hohenstein. This will forever prevent them from cooperating with us. It is suggested to destroy the family and redistribute their lands to another more favourable family.

The Family Risewell

Finally a family that knows their place. Even if they still refuse to join the empire, under pressure from their neighbours. They owe us a great debt thanks to the work of our diplomats pulling the strings to ensure their rise to power. With their help will we be able to ensure unity in the Northern Realms.
