Syrena is an enigmatic goddess who reigns over the ephemeral domains of dreams and desire. The embodiment of the Moon itself, she forms a cosmic duality with her twin Syllara, goddess of the Sun. While the Blind Huntress blazes with constant radiance, Syrena’s influence waxes and wanes in rhythm with the heavens. Her avatar most often appears as an elven maiden—lithe and raven-haired—draped in silks as delicate as moonlight, a porcelain mask concealing her features, save for the beguiling glint of her eyes. Where her sister’s blindfold represents justice, Syrena’s hidden face reminds mortals that the truth is elusive, never wholly revealed.
Though the Pale Maiden’s capricious nature often perplexes her disciples, they believe her silvery light helps them navigate the winding pathways of their hearts, where reason often falters. Syrena is known to have a fondness for beauty in all its forms, so those who would seek her favor must first present something to draw her attention — be it a painting, a jewel, or a love song. Her faithful, much like their goddess, resist the confines of convention and propriety. Courtesans honor her as patroness of seduction, while poets and artists see in her a muse. Even thieves whisper her name, for she cloaks their steps in shadow when the night darkens.
Lycanthropes are counted among her most fervent followers, their very blood bound to the phases of her celestial body. To them, she is not distant divinity but the source of their duality — the silver fire that blurs the line between blessing and curse, between freedom and frenzy. On moonlit nights they raise their howls to her in offering, reveling in the beauty of their transformation. The Pale Maiden teaches her worshippers to embrace both the light and dark within the world, knowing that life is neither fair nor fixed. In Her ever-shifting light, they learn that fortune favors not the timid but those who dare to dream — and to take what they desire.
Holy Day of Syrena — The Moonlight Masquerade, traditionally held on Midwinter, marks the longest night of the year and the height of the Pale Maiden’s power. From dusk until dawn, celebrants don elaborate masks and surrender their identities beneath Syrena’s Grace. For one night, any secret spoken is said to dissolve in the moonlight. Music and dance give way to whispered confessions — lovers succumb to long-guarded passions, rivalries are rekindled or put to rest, and even the demure grow daring.
Taboo Practice — The Nightjars are a sinister sect of the Pale Maiden’s followers who twist the gift of dream-walking into a weapon. Claiming their goddess delights in fear as much as beauty, they trespass into the slumber of others, seeding nightmares to torment or control. Unlike true elven Stargazers, who seek wisdom in dreams, Nightjars revel in dread, calling it the purest reflection of the mortal soul. Their rites are whispered of with unease, for even other lunar clergy denounce them as dangerous.
