Keido is revered throughout the Isles as the son of Rhen, the Hearth Mother. After his sister Aurelia fell into an endless sleep, never to wake, he was chosen to take her place as Exarch, a charge he bore with the humility of one who never sought it. Painters often render him as a regal Yamakirin man, his hair silvered with age, clothed in the armored robes of a warrior monk. Though a paragon of peacebuilding and restraint, he was also a master swordsman and tactician, having trained his body as carefully as his spirit. Yet he is remembered less for his prowess in battle than for his aspiration to see a world where such talents need never be used.
Little is known of Keido’s mortal life, save that he walked among beggars, yet his image endures as an inspiration for those who feel lost or uncertain of their place in the world. Outcasts and pilgrims look to him as a shepherd of the wayward, believing his wisdom can turn despair into direction. Artists and merchants likewise honor him, for they see his steady hand in both craft and commerce, adorning ledgers, trade seals, and studio walls with his likeness. Unlike most Exarchs—except perhaps Pharah, the Martyr—it is not considered taboo to offer him prayer, even among his mother’s sworn clergy, so long as their devotion remains rightly placed.
