Elysian Peaks of Heaven

Heaven is the highest of the Nine Realms, taking the form of a colossal mountain of incalculable stature that stretches into a horizonless open sky. Seven craggy tiers comprise its tapered silhouette, which vary wildly in both appearance and identity, from the pristine beaches found near its fortified base to the swirling snow and mists that gather like clouds near its summit. The River Empyreus, the source of the River of Souls in the Upper Realms, not only sustains the plane with its sacred flowing waters but also serves as a physical connection to several other planes of existence, carving a path across the tiers before emptying into the Astral Sea.

It is widely believed that this realm (which was dubbed Elysium by the devas, its original inhabitants) is one of the oldest places in existence, predating even the beginning of time. Though no empirical evidence exists to verify this, in the cultural beliefs of nearly every mortal civilization throughout history, the mountain itself was said to have been the first sight to greet the gods when they arrived from beyond the Multiverse. It is this profound significance that attracts all manner of celestials to the realm. Ageless warriors called archons watch over the mountain as its staunch protectors, while angels (who descend from the aforementioned devas) grace its peaks with their winged mien. Among these noble beings, two other classes of creatures call Heaven their home: heroic and impassioned muses known as azatas, and bestial yet peaceful guardians of nature known as agathions.
