Elemental Elves
There are several schools of thought concerning the origins of the markings found on the elemental elves. One of the most prevalent are those that believe that they represent the heraldry of ancient lines of elves from the lands of one of the Fae Courts in Otherworld. This view is supported through the clear and present alliances of lines with those of the Fae. Those that bear more faeborn blood are often known as Fora and are met by the denizens of Otherworld as something of a disgraced outcast up to a welcomed cousin from afar depending on the line and the Fae. Those who claim Fora ancestry respect and enforce the ancient rules of hospitality in all things. These elves are normally found near portals to Otherworld controlled by associated Fae Courts of Spring (Wind), Summer (Fire), Fall (Stone) and Winter (Water). There are elves associated with the Otherworldly courts such as Mischief, Conquest (both of which run the gambit of powers), as well as Day (which generally correspond to the abilities of the Solinari) and Night (which generally correspond to the Nulvari). Some imperial scholars postulate that the mark is a slave marking of the Fae, much like the links of the Imperial Guild of Slavers, marking servants for all time and binding them to their Fae masters.
Another prevalent belief is that the mark is pure elemental power, like that of the tamga of the jann. This view is supported through the kinship and connection that some elemental elves share with some jann. There are jann that consider certain members to be ilkar, or spirit family. Other look to the recognition that some elementals of station have for certain marks. These reactions have been documented as both friendly and hostile, depending on the elemental and the elf. These elves often choose to pledge themselves to a potentate of one of the Ascendancies.
All elemental elves manifest memories linked to places and times of elemental power when calling upon their Timeless Skill.
