Typhonesti
Stormfellows are found in the more extreme and windswept climates of Urth on islands, mountains, stormy shores, and the like. Some of the typhonesti may be found in areas of elemental wind that tend to generate hurricanes, typhoons, and tornadoes. Typhonesti have a reputation for being both patient and active, both mercurial and driven.
Much like the jann, the typhonesti bear a mark of elemental power, specifically that of elemental wind which they call a mistrenech. This mark may be small or cover much of the typhonesti’s body. It is widely believed by those outside of the fire elves, that the size of the mark represents its power, but the typhonesti know that this is not entirely true. All typhonesti have a manifestation on their face. Some markings manifest with swirling patterns, lightning-like bolts, or texture like a cloud.
The bond to the power of wind within a typhonesti is a source of immense pride and typhonesti go to great lengths to show as much of their Mistrenech as decency and modesty allow. This link can alter the tissues of a typhonesti, infusing them with a white or light blue tint to various areas of their skin. This coloring is usually a mirror of their Mistrenech. This tinting rarely touches the entire body of the typhonesti and many never see more than a touch in their eyes, hair, and nails. Exposure to intense wind energy can advance the condition known as the Drafting.
It is said that typhonesti may only be born when there is a surge in elemental power, great storms, or in places of great significance to the power of wind on Urth. Typhonesti are born with their Mistrenech and often given a name that harkens to the event that sparked their life in addition to their name given to outsiders, sometimes if many children are born of the same event, they will be given a title common to all of them. Many often bear the name of the wind that prevails on their homes. When typhonesti come of age, they must undergo a Drift where the typhonesti must travel to the end of the wind and back, presenting the stories and trophies to the community upon their return. Some families, communities and lines have specific requirements to meet, others use the ceremony as an excuse to party. Those that fail the test are banished from the group and become known as Drifters.
