The Deepwood

The Deepwood is a large swath of land between the Cloudspine mountains and the sea. It lies east of Ilukar and is not known to most of the world, as it is only possible to access the Deepwood through the Khoial Forest or by crossing the Cloudspine or Sundershroud mountain ranges.
The Deepwood was created by green men and forest folk working together after the Cataclysms. The forest folk came to the survivors of the final Cataclysm with word that the land between the Cloudspine and the sea had been destroyed by the armies of Nahavira, who had found many metals there useful to their cause. The green men agreed to go with the forest folk, and never returned to their homes. Instead, they created a forest to draw the poison from the earth that had been ravaged by Nahavira, and from that forest grew an entire society.
All of the Deepwood's ecology has been modified to some extent in order to allow for the toxic load of the heavy metals, the waste dump on which the Deepwood sits. Most of the demesnes use the Deepwood's natural resources in innovative ways, from Crèche to Foundry.
There are seven demesnes - Crèche. Apiary. Foundry. Crucible. Grange. Piscary. Magistra’s Throne.
Crèche is essentially a county-sized plant nursery and science experiment, where new species are grown out, their characteristics studied, and where new cultivars of useful plants are created for the various purposes of the Deepwood's peoples.
Apiary is a series of orchards and meadows, a haven for pollinators. It is also the home of many of those who shape living trees into buildings, though those who practice this art necessarily move where they are needed.
Foundry is where the heavy metals in the saps and resins of the plants and trees are extracted. These are then sent to Crucible.
Crucible deals mostly with raw ores mined from the trees and plants of the Deepwood. This is where most of the crafts are located; metalworking and resin shaping primarily. Grange is the place where most livestock of the Deepwood are kept and processed.
Piscary deals mostly with aquatic plants and stocks most of the fish that are eaten in the Deepwood.
Magistra's Throne is the seat of government, but it is also where most of the fine artisans live and work - those who use the resins and the precious metals extracted in Foundry to create art such as beautiful 'stained glass' made from the sap of the various trees.
