Dragonborn

The Dragonborn. A mythic race almost forgotten from the modern day tomes. They are one of the many Lizardfolk races, and these are known for having special abilities some see as the power of dragons. This is exactly why these are called the dragonborn.   According to legend, these dragonborn use special rituals to allow them to use this power, but they have never claimed this to be true, nor have they ever told anyone about how these rituals were to go, if they even happened. Still, many historians believe that to be true, because in many cases in which the dragonborn had told it to someone, they'd magically also turned into a dragonborn, or into a dragonborn-like creature. An enormous example of this are the Dragon-Elves.

History

The Dragonborn are seen as exotic creatures, and are treated really inhumanely. But it hasn't always been this way. To discover why, we'd travel back to before the The First Great Fall.   In the time of The First Great Fall, the Dragonborn didn't really exsist like they do today. This story is their origin story all the way to the story of how they came to be. If this story is like 300 pages long, don't blame me. They asked for the history, they get the history. And, to be fair, I'm just going to fly through the first part, about The First Great Fall, because it's not really relevant to the story about the Dragonborn, and if you want to find out more, you can just look at the Lizardfolk. Like all Lizardfolk, the race yet to become the Dragonborn lived in Temnar, and they were pretty opressed by their rulers, in that time the Kahr Empire. And, just like all Lizardfolk, they fought for their freedom, which they eventually gained. Even though this was a fall for most of the world, and most of the people really lost a lot in it, The First Great Fall was actually pretty good for the Lizardfolk. After the great fall, there was a lot of chaos in Temnar, and many of the Lizardfolk didn't want to see it again. Even though peace was restored within 200 years with the help of the Humans, by that time many of the Lizardfolk had already flead. Most of the Lizardfolk races lived in the south of Temnar, and the Dragonborn were no exception. Because of one of the Three Fire-Stones being nearby, it was always pretty hot in those area's. To be clear, no-one knew of the Fire-stone being there, they just thought: "Hey it's pretty hot here. Let's stay here so we won't freeze to death." When these Lizardfolk races flead from Temnar, everywhere they went to was just extremely cold. Like, not just a little cold but extremely cold. This is why, each of these species went searching for heat. The Naga stayed in the Silmar Desert, the Loxodon traveled to the Jungles of Welvia, and the Lizardmen, the most common of all Lizardfolk, traveled pretty much everywhere, to all the corners of this new world they were exploring, or as it is known by all other mayor races, the old world. These lizardmen split up in different factions, and one of these were the so-called Knights of the fire. These were the Lizardfolk who were to become the Dragonborn. The Knights of the fire fought many monsters and many wars, and even started an assault towards the Throne of the Dragons. This is a legendary place, that lies in the highest mountain of the mountain range that is to become called the Dragonborn Peaks. In that time it wasn't known as the Dragonborn Peaks, but instead as the Mountains of the Sun. This is because many of it's mountains are volcano's, and it always being extremely hot there. One of the other things about the Mountains of the Sun is that it's famous for it's many Dragons. This is also why it's biggest mountain, which also is a volcano, is known as the @Throne of the Dragons. Or, to quote it even more correctly, according to folklore, the Throne of the Dragons, the place where all dragons meet and all dragons are ruled from, lies inside this mountain. Even though many have disregarded it as false information, the Knights of the Fire decided to go down there and look for themselves. And, let's just say, they weren't let down. What they saw down there, no-one knows. All they know is that the knights of the Fire went down there, and when they came back up they were completely changed. Both in how they looked and in how they acted. According to folk-lore what they saw down there was the King of the Dragons, and that he'd told them all kinds of secrets about the world and the Dragons. That the Dragonborn really were told these secrets, is something very unclear. But that the Dragonborn don't know these secrets anymore, is something that almost everyone agrees on. Still, whatever the case may be, after the Knights of the Fire came out of the Throne of the Dragons, they had extreme abilities. And let's just say, many people, and I mean many people were jealous. Over all, entire empires set out with enormous armies towards the Throne of the Dragons, but none that entered ever came back out. Many blamed this on the Dragonborn, and as time passed, the Dragonborn got sore on the thumb. People started mistrusting Dragonborn whenever they saw one, and some even started making laws against Dragonborn. Still, many Dragonborn lived happy lives, and many Dragonborn came to the realization that they didn't really care about what most people thought about them, as long at least they had many friends who knew the truth. As time passed, the bad things told about Dragonborn slowly turned into history, and then into myth.   But, as things started getting worse, and the Second Great Fall was at the doorstep of that modern days' history, the question started coming up again: How did the Dragonborn gain their Dragon-like powers? And, just like last time, the Dragonborn didn't feel like answering it. So rumours started spreading again, and old myths were told again as if they were fact. A new era started, and the hate for the Dragonborn started rising again. Around this time, there were no true owners of the Dragonborn Peaks. Still, the Dragonborn felt like they were the owners, but so did the Kahr Empire. Around this fall, it had finally recovered from all it's losses, and with its newly found technology of Sphalerite, it had an enourmous advantage over everyone else. As it's new central trading hub Kahr Zen was growing, the Dwarves wanted to reinforce their position around their capitol, Kahr Velor, which is now more commonly known as Nekromandir. This of course also included attacking the nearby Dragonborn Peaks and the Volonian Empire, an empire of Elves mostly located around the Eastern parts of the Bay of Barmen. And, as expected, they didn't like this. For the first time in many centuries, the Dragonborn were forced to head out of their mountains to fight a war against the Dwarves. To be fair, the Dwarves didn't expect that much opposition, seeing how everyone looked down on the Dragonborn for being creatures who keep to themselves. And oh boy, did they underestimate them. Within several months, the Dragonborn had destroyed several of the Dwarven Armies, because of the shear quantity of them. But not only did they have more men, they had stronger men by a long shot. This was because almost their entire army was trained and focused to use The Winds of Magic of the Flame as they called it, naming it after their legendary first army. The destructive power of the Dragonborn was showed towards the entire world, and after the Dragonborn layed waste to the city of Kahr Zevai, a Dwarves City located really near the capitol, and seen as it's last defence, the Dwarves begged for peace. The Dragonborn accepted, with the only requirement being that the Dwarves gave away all their territories in and around the Dragonborn Peaks. This included the newly destroyed Kahr Zevai, which would hang over the Dwarves as a reminder of that they couldn't win.   Now that the Dragonborn had objectively destroyed one of the biggest empires in the world, other empires asked for their help, or conspired against them. Still, the Dragonborn wanted only that they could stay in the mountains that they called their home. One of the Empires that conspired against them was, of course, the Kahr Empire, who wanted his own territories back. They slowly rounded up all their wars, and prepared for a big invasion. This didn't stay unnoticed, and the Dragonborn started building their defenses. There were three big entrances into the Dragonborn Peaks that the Dwarves could reasonably take, covering three old roads. Two of these were previously in the hands of the Kahr Empire, but now they were controlled by the Dragonborn. They reasoned that the best idea would be to defend against an invading army here, and they built two enormous walls. These two walls were called the Walls of the Edge. This is because these Walls were seen as the Edge of the Dragonborn Territory. Even though they technicaly owned more, they decided it would be best to stay inside these walls The last of the three entrances was controlled by the last Aven Empire the world would ever see, the Krovainian Empire. The Dragonborn, even with their few communications with the outer world, knew that the Krovainian Empire and the Kahr Empire were enourmous enemies, ever since the Betrayal of Floe, which led to The First Great Fall. But, the Dwarves and the Aven still came to a deal and they both cooperated in the downfall of the Dragonborn. As an enormous army marched through the third big entrance, which got the name Road of the Blue Flame, because of the incredibly many soldiers wielding Sphalerite technology, and the incredibly many Dragonborn that were burned alive as the army marched by. Thousands of Dragonborn died during that march, and when the Dragonborn armies finally came together to fight off the coming army, they were painfully defeated. Still, during the march the Dwarves had many problems. One of these was an enormous lack of food, because either they or the Dragonborn themselves had burned it all before they could eat it. The probably bigger problem was that there was a rebbelion rising in Kahr Zen. This was led by a women named Zemora and they wanted to become the leaders of the Kahr Empire. This meant that the army had to be split in half while half of the army marched back to it's own ground. While marching back, diplomats of the Dwarven army were able to convince the Krovainian Empire to join the war against the Dragonborn. As a second army marched towards the Road of the Blue Flame, the Dragonborn realized that they had to do something quick or else they'd just be destroyed. They were able to make a pact with the here fore mentioned Volonian Empire, who accepted to help the Dragonborn in exchange for that they would be told the secrets behind the Dragonborns' power. Within one month they were able to destroy the Dwarven army, and they made sure nothing of their army would be able to tell the Aven army about the threat on their horizon. As the Aven army came and expected to be greeted by a Dwarven army, they were greeted by their death, and they were painfully hit into the ground. Then the Dragonborn and the Elven army marched north to conquer Kahr Velor, but before they could even reach it they heard that the rebellion led by Zemora had succeeded in taking over the Kahr Empire, and had laid waste to it's old capitol. They sent some diplomats to deal with the new Kahr Empire, and agreed that they would have all the territory up to the Walls of the Edge, in exchange for that there would be an eternal peace between them, which was something both parties could use. After that the Armies marched East to lay waste to the Krovainian Empire, but by the time they reached there most of the territory was already destroyed by an army of High-Elves from Myolaena. Together with the army of High-Elves, they completely destroyed the Krovainian Empire, and officially beginning the start of The Second Great Fall.   If you want to know how it ended with the Volonian Empire, after learning the secrets of the Dragonborn, they decided that they agreed with the Dragonborn and all the Elves who had learned it all moved into or around the Dragonborn Peaks, making these the only two species living there. These Elves are now most commonly known as the Dragon-Elves, because they are Elves with the power of Dragons. The three big roads into the Dragonborn Peaks on it's northern boudries were in the end all walled off and on the roads lie three big gates. These are now known as the Northern Edge Gates.   In this point of time, the Dragonborn controlled most if not all of the northern parts of the Dragonborn Peaks, but they still have one glaring weakness, the south. After destroying the Krovainian Empire together with the High-Elves from the Myolaenian Kingdom, they had gotten on good terms with each other, which meant that the Dragonborn didn't fear them. Who the Dragonborn did fear, were the Dwarves of Kehn Rignarr. Even though these weren't an enormous threat on their own, but if they could make good allies, they could destroy the Dragonborn. Besides the Dwarves and the Elves, the Dragonborn were also located next to the Forest of Morada. But, just like always, the creatures inside the forests would rather keep to themselves, and as long as you don't disturb them, they won't disturb you. It's that easy. But the problem here is that the Forest doesn't cover the entire west side of the Dragonborn Peaks. You can easily go either north or south past the Forest. And on the Edge of the Dragonborn Peaks on the north side of the Forest of Morada, lies the true threat of the Dragonborn, the city Aléèsa. This settlement was once part of the Volonian Empire, and before that of the Barmen Empire, but now it's controlled by a host of Lizardfolk. These Lizardfolk are part of the Scorching Empire as they call themselves, but it really isn't organised and centralized. These Lizardfolk see themselves as the 'True' Empire of the Flame, and they speak low about the Dragonborn. As tensions grow, the Dragonborn look to their old allies of the Volonian Empire for help, but they are busy with their own wars. The Dragonborn seem to have to face it on their own, the enormous host of Lizardfolk. But before the war can break out in between these two parties, The Third Great Fall is already on it's way and the Dragonborn are called to help in a big battle for the city of Tirona, now more known as Nekrotirrum. The Dragonborn destroy several big Undead armies of Kordova, but in the end they arrive too late to help the falling empires. With the War for Silmar officially lost, the Dragonborn return home as the terrain around them grows barrend. The once great forest of Silmar is now slowly turning into the wasteland of a desert that we know it as today, the Silmar Desert. Once returned home, the war is declared upon the Dragonborn by the Lizardfolk who were tired of waiting because of the Alliance of Silmar. They marched north and got joined by a newly risen host of Dwarves from the Kehn Empire and an army of Humans from the Kingdom of Semnéèé. The Dragonborn, who only have a fragment of their old army left, seek round for allies, but before they could find any the new army had already marched into Dragonborn territory. They only had one disadvantage: they didn't know where any of the major settlements of the Dragonborn were. They slowly marched around the mountains, and slowly got trimmed down by raiders and ambushes. Once they finally reached something they could destroy, they realized they had marched straight into a trap. Around them were enormous forests, an unexpected sight to see in the Dragonborn Peaks, and out of the forest marched an enormous army of Wood-Elves, High-Elves, Sea-Elves, Dragon-Elves and Dragonborn combined. It was a war of Elf and Dragonborn versus Men, Dwarves and Lizardfolk. The enormous and bloody battle that happened afterwards was known as the Battle of the Ten Armies. The battle was won by the Dragonborn, and after the battle they finnished the war with many more battles, but for all of that lore you should read the Final War of the Dragonborn Peaks. In the end the Dragonborn controlled all of the Dragonborn Peaks, and they even set up their capitol in the old Dwarven city, Rignarr.
