History & Usage

Discovery

The expansive forests of the Duchy of Lann hold many varieties among them is the Honey Pine. It was largely ignored before The Fall other than standard Lumber. In 156 AF Dame Vilencia No'jeck of the Order of the Striking Hammers discovered by steaming the needles and sap of the honey pine in a still the vapor could be collected, condensed and the oil created siphoned off. This oil when thickened with a distillation of the sap and combined with raw wool could create an almost perfect waterproofing sealant. This discovery was brought to the attention of the Order of the Steadfast Anchor. Within a few years a cooperative effort between the Duchies of Lann, Akina and Segla resulted in ships far more seaworthy then any created before

Everyday use

It's main use is in waterproofing ships. It is not uncommon to seal the outside of water barrels as well for added assurances

Industrial Use

There exists a large lumbering operation in the Duchy of Lann, byproduct of this is collecting all the needles of the honey pine and harvesting the sap during the this process. These are shipped to manufacturies in the Duchy of Akina for making the oil

Distribution

Trade & Market

Even with the downfall of the Duchy of Lann the production of Pine Oil continues. Ingredients from Lann are sold to Akina who produces the oil. Akina sells the oil at cost to Segla for use in Sendilarian ship building, maintenance and trade. Merchants from Lann are able to take payment for their materials in Honey Pine Oil barrels. The other duchies pay a slight markup. Honey Pine Oil is the product of choice in ship building and demands a high price for export. That price is readily paid and has delivered vast dividends into the Kingdom of Sendilar and her duchies.

Honey is such a sweet and good smell, I love a good-smelling ship, for a change :D It's also nice to see the price difference depending on who buys it
