Crystal Horn
"I heard you could use a Crystal Horn to speak from one end of the Kingdom to the other" overheard in the Great Market of Culaxin
Utility
Sir Terrance was attempting to use crystal set in bronze to make a better compass needle. While in one of his chambers affixing a piece of carved crystal into a compass prototype the crystal vibrated slightly as it came into contact with the bronze housing. Intrigued he experimented with other metals and bronze was the only one to cause it to slightly vibrate. Continuing this on this experimental vein he had a second piece carved in the exact same dimensions and placed both into identical bronze housing. Both Crystal's vibrated in the exact same fashion. He declared aloud "Intriguing" His shock was absolute when the sound of his voice, very very faintly echoed from the vibrating crystals.
Further experiments revealed that two pieces of crystal carved from single piece will work at a variable range depending on the size of the crystal. The small pieces Sir Terrance started with would allow two people to speak via the crystals at a range of 200 meters
Manufacturing
The largest set he was able to craft with his existing stock of what he named The Resonance Crystal were a pair where each was the size of two hands clasping. These, sent in a bronze fitting hung suspended by fine chains so the crystal would not be damaged by the vibration, allowed two to converse at 10 km. However further experimentation or even mass production is impossible.
Social Impact
The Duchy of Akina has begun using twelve of the thirteen sets within the Duchy and the Order of the Striking Hammer. Word is starting to spread and all who hear of it are fascinated by the concept of talking at a distance
Access & Availability
The Resonance Crystals were only found in deep caverns accessed only via the Crescent Mine. The Duchy of Schild has adminstration over all lands once ruled by the Duke of Lann. Requests for access to gather more of the Resonance Crystals have been strangely denied.
Thirteen sets of varying sizes were created by Sir Terrance. Without additional Resonance Crystals no more can be created
Complexity
Remarkably simple in design. It takes a master to carve the Crystals without damage but once that step is done a simple bronze housing needs crafted so the crystal can be set into it to create the connection.
Discovery
During it's limited operation, one of the things harvested via The Crescent Mine was a variety of crystals, some unknown to those who study such things. One, a large purple Crystal with green veins was eventually acquired by Sir Terrance Ilsenon of the Order of the Striking Hammer in 389 AF. He was researching different methods of campus and navigational creation to increase performance and reliability. While using carefully cut pieces didnt produce the dividends he had hoped what it did do will potentially change the course of history for the entire world.
