Hunting Trio
Kezlaf traveled with his Wringers as a show of his power as Uniter, but he also deployed them in threes for more clandestine operations such as investigating sabotage or tracking down suspected Dissolvers. These sub-units traveled with none of the fanfare of Kezlaf's guards, wearing clothes local to their destination and carrying nothing to identify them. Their successes were publicized after the fact and did much to create the Wringers' reputation of being everywhere.
Composition
Manpower
A hunting trio consisted of three Wringers with complementary skillsets: an aurafinder, a tuner, and a handler. The aurafinder would identify suspects, the tuner would search them for information, and the handler would provide any necessary distractions. Kezlaf preferred to use younger Wringers for these missions because of how easily overlooked they are. Teenagers may be accused often of causing mischief, but rarely of committing espionage.
Weaponry
To maintain the illusion of innocence, a trio was armed with only their skill in water manipulation. For this same reason a trio never included a water worker, because that category of manipulation is not possible to perform with any subtlety.
History
Kezlaf didn't publicize the activities of hunting Wringers, so it's impossible to say when they were first deployed. The original trios were probably composed of Water Seekers he had recruited, but over time Kezlaf showed a clear preference for working with his own children. Of the Seekers today who used to be Wringers, only Shend and Cahar and Voia reported having gone on hunting missions. Kezlaf was probably preparing Quarric, Firsit, and Yostep to be a hunting trio as well, in light of how often they were assigned to work together, but they were still too young for such missions when the Unity was defeated and the Wringers disbanded.
