Holdurnose

Part 3 of 4 of my interview with Zimmira, continued from

That's the basis of our current agreement with the deeps-dweller: it monitors the water around our conduit to protect it from Dregs sabotage, and we provide a regular supply of holdurnose to keep it healthy.
Holdurnose? That's the mineral?
It's the main component, the one that's running out.
*giggle* I'm--I'm sorry. It's just...every step of this seems to be getting sillier. The deeps-dweller, made of animals that look like trees, that eat the waste of a slime that eats rotten eggs? I don't disbelieve you, but it feels like you're building up to a joke.
That's understandable, I probably would have laughed too before I knew. But listen: holdurnose is valuable enough that my ancestors felt it worth the risk of starting a colony all the way out on Ralcondray for the purpose of mining it. It's used in so many industries, I don't think it's too far a reach to believe that some living things might need it too.
Industries? Really?
Galtern wants it for medical compounds and Mraydor wants it for power wells. We supply papermakers, clothmakers, farms, construction companies. We could probably supply jewelers also, if it weren't so difficult to find pure samples that don't reek. *pause* Eihlari's a self-sufficient place, I'd heard. Surely you must have your own sources of holdurnose?
My sister's the one with the interest in rocks. I just write about things.
Have you ever seen a strikingly intense yellow crystal, with a bit of that bad egg smell about it?
She does have something like that, only it looks more like chalk than crystal.
Are there rock fields around your volcano that you're not allowed to go near?
