Dancingwave
The Dancingwave is a small passenger boat kept at the Eddy for the Dancinglight's use.
History
The Dancingwave was the first conduit / sail hybrid built after a hiatus of ten years. Alcendis, who had recently been declared Dancinglight, commissioned it both as personal transportation and as a safe place to sleep. She had been the target of threats, and felt more at ease sleeping surrounded by water. For such a small boat, the Dancingwave has traveled far. It has docked multiple times at every island in the Cluster, visited each of the external islands at least once, and crossed two major ocean Gaps back and forth. It's designed to carry 4-5 people and supplies enough for 5 days on the ocean, but its capacity has been pushed to the extreme limit in the Dancinglight's service. At one point it took eight on a ten-day trip, a highly uncomfortable experience according to the passengers I've talked to. After thirty years, the hull is beginning to suffer physical degradation. Repairs are required more frequently and are harder to complete. It's likely that within the next couple of years the Dancingwave will be retired and a new boat purchased for the new Dancinglight.Propulsion
As a hybrid boat, the Dancingwave is capable of traveling both on the conduits by its chain drive and over free ocean by sail. There are four oars included as an emergency measure, but the boat is not expected to be rowed long distances.
Armor and defense
A battery of lightning wheels around the perimeter of the boat gives it some protection from tampering. Any would-be saboteur who gets within range of the boat will receive a miniature lightning bolt--not powerful enough to cause real harm, but sufficient to trigger the startle reflex and alert occupants to the presence of an invader.

I love the technologies used on the vessels of your world. Do you sail yourself, or even live on a boat? You seem quite knowledgeable about aquatic matters :)
Oh dear no, I wish that were true! I look things up and fake the rest. But I'll accept the compliment anyway. My goal is to make these things feel possible even if they're not.
