Silver Knights

Soldiers of the Light

"We are the lantern which illuminates the path to righteousness. We are the light which wards off the dark. We are the pyre upon which the wicked are burned. We are the flame of retribution, the burning sword which shall avenge the fallen. We are the Silver Knights of the Order of the Light."

The Silver Knights are the loyal followers of Dexter Bright and the successors to the fallen fallen church. From their citadel upon Mt. Calvary, they tend to the flickering light of their fallen order. Though they hold but a fraction of the power the church once held, they represent the last, best hope for the light.

Structure

The Silver Knights' structure is completely built by Dexter Bright. He placed emphasis on the physical, mental, and spiritual safety of his soldiers, resulting in many new ranks which did not exist in the old order.
At the top of the Silver Knights is the Lord Commander. Dexter Bright himself holds this position. The Lord Commander has ultimate control over the Silver Knights.
The Chaplains of the order are the highest ranking lieutenants of the Lord Commander. Each is a powerful mage in their own right, and act as both advisors and officers to the order. The Chaplains are also responsible for rooting out disloyalty or corruption from the ranks.
Knight Paladins are the chosen of the Chaplains to act as champions and liaisons to the Chaplain. The Paladin is deployed as the hand of the Chaplain on tasks of particular importance.
Knight Captains are the highest ranking knights. They command a company of knights or a small fortress. These tend to be the most experienced and powerful knights in their company.
Knight Sergeants lead small formations of knights such as strike teams or platoons. Additionally, they may be charged with a small camp. Usually, one will be chosen before combat as the standard bearer.
Knight Corporals lead squadrons or kill teams of knights. They are responsible only for their men, themselves, and their objective.
Knights are the standard infantry of the Silver Knights. While all specialize in mounted combat, subtypes exist for specific missions. Purifiers make extensive use of fire-based weapons and are specifically trained for sieges and storm tactics. Lancers are heavy mounted infantry armed for breakthrough operations. Fusiliers are lightly armed and armored, but trained in stealth and reconnaissance. Librarians are both scribes and mages. The presence of a Librarian on the battlefield will inspire nearby Silver Knights.

In addition to their militant wing, there exist the Enlightened wing and the Exploratory wing. The Enlightened wing is composed of scribes, Librarians, and scholars while the Exploratory wing is composed of sailors, merchants, and explorers. The latter two wings are known to actively recruit women, unlike the militant wing.

Public Agenda

The Silver Knights strive to protect the light. They protect their artifacts, their believers, and their customs. Additionally, they protect those who help them or have helped them in the past.

Assets

The Silver Knights have a massive citadel on Mt. Calvary, as well as the city of Jerusalem under their jurisdiction. Additionally, the full resources of the Black Sun Syndicate are at their disposal.
Most notably, Mt. Calvary is also nesting ground of five Earthen Dragons.

History

The Silver Knights were originally founded by Dexter Bright to protect his son Samuel. He chose his five most trusted, devout, and powerful lieutenants of the Black Sun Syndicate as his first five Chaplains to watch over Samuel and protect him. Gradually, the organization grew until there were around 500 knights total in the order. Now, it is a powerful force in its own right, no longer devout to protecting Bright's son, but rather to protecting the ways of the old church.

Military

The Silver Knights' militant wing consists of roughly 500 knights and 30 Librarians. While less powerful than other traditional infantry, the Silver Knights make up for this with superior tactics, discipline, and equipment.
That said, however, their militant wing is far smaller than most conventional armies. While adept at covert operations, the Silver Knights cannot sustain a prolonged conflict due to their low numbers. In an open engagement, their training advantage can be offset by sheer force of numbers. Regardless, they represent a small, elite unit of trained warriors able to carry out high-risk missions with minimal casualties.

Tenets of Faith

The Silver Knights follow a modified code of tenants from the Church of the Light emphasizing mindfulness and righteousness. They are encouraged to live among the people they protect and to form bonds with those around them.
These tenants are meant to bring the knights closer to the light and improve the lives of those around them. Additionally, knights are encouraged to learn arts such as drawing, painting, music or poetry. This is to ensure that the Light's will is enacted by well rounded humans, not mindless drones.

Ethics

Knights are encouraged to help the population of Jerusalem and form bonds with the people living there. It is believed that acts of generosity, kindness, and compassion empower the light and make the knight stronger.
Additionally, however, strength is emphasized as well. The knights are instructed to be kind to their charges, but not to coddle them. Should the Silver Knights be destroyed, the population would suffer from being too dependent on them. As such, the knights often will teach a man to fish rather than catch one for him.

Worship

The Silver Knights do not pray to the Light as the church of old did. Their swords, crafted in Lightbringer's image, are considered their connections to the Light. As such, to pray, they will draw their sword and recite a short incantation to the light. These incantations often include praying that they have the strength to succeed in their task.
When they succeed or fail, the Silver Knights do not blame the Light, rather themselves for their own actions. While they follow the tenants of the faith, they believe their actions to be their responsibility and theirs alone. This differs from the old church, who believed the Light to be responsible for every action they took.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The Lord Commander, Dexter Bright, is one of three advisors to the Wolf Queen. As the dominant power in both Earth and the Homeland, her influence is great. Having her ear is one of the most powerful assets for any organization, especially the Silver Knights.

Know thy self, know thy enemy.
