Knight Barriston

Chaplain Alexander Barriston (a.k.a. The Ancient, Elder Barriston)

The 5th Chaplain, Knight Barriston is the first among equals in the Chaplains. As the favored lieutenant of Dexter Bright, Barriston holds considerable power in Dex's domains. He is far more level-headed and compassionate than Dex, making him the favored Silver Knight in negotiations with the Wolf Queen. However, he is also thoroughly loyal to the Golden Saint and cannot be convinced to double-cross him, no matter how childish his goals may seem.
Barriston is a wise and compassionate man, often acting as Dexter's right hand man and the voice of reason in the council of Chaplains. He is close friends with many of the senior knights in the Spire and trained many of the Order's finest knights personally.

His armor is bonded to him by the artificers of Jerusalem, as well as warded with runes of the Light. Additionally, Barriston's armor is lighter than that of his brother Chaplains.
Barriston's Cane- Knight Barriston's cane conceals a blade of pure silver. This blade, despite its narrow nature, is rumored to be unbreakable and is deadly in the hands of a master swordsman.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Once, Barriston served one of the many feudal lords of the Homeland. In his earlier years, a path of destruction followed in his wake as he tore through the enemies of his lord. As he tempered, however, Barriston looked back at the roads he had walked and saw those who had been crushed in the process. Disgusted with both himself and his lord, he immigrated to Earth to find peace.
While on Earth, he witnessed the acts of the Church of the Light. He admired the selfless altruism of the church and found redemption in helping those around him. After the Long Night, he helped hide Dexter Bright and his son, becoming the first Chaplain of the Silver Knights.

Education

Barrison, having lived as a noble in the Homeland, is trained both to act as a warrior and a diplomat. Additionally, his years of experience in the field have taught him valuable lessons he is eager to share.

Employment

Barriston is a Chaplain of the Silver Knights. He is the voice of reason in the council, often tempering Bright's outlandish plans with cold, hard logic.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Barrison saved the lives of Dexter Bright and his son early on. Since then, he has assisted in planning most major operations of the Silver Knights and has trained nearly a dozen heroes of the Order.
During his time in the Homeland, Barriston led several campaigns in minor conflicts with brutal efficiency. He left his kingdom as a hero to his liege and returned years later as a conqueror for the Wolf Queen.

Failures & Embarrassments

Barriston feels great guilt for the suffering he caused in his younger years. Between tactical blunders that led to the deaths of his own soldiers and the acts of atrocities he carried out during his campaigns, these weigh heavily on Barriston's mind.

Mental Trauma

Barrison is constantly burdened with the guilt of his time serving his former master. He remembers clearly the faces of the civilians he killed and the soldiers who fell under his command.

Intellectual Characteristics

Barriston has been tempered with age. He is slow and methodical, and his wisdom is legendary within the order. Despite holding the same rank as every other Chaplain in the Order, he is considered first among equals because of this.

Morality & Philosophy

Barriston understands the need for force better than anyone. He, however, believes that the world has seen enough suffering for many lifetimes and that adding to it will not benefit anyone. Because of this, he often advocates against the use of extreme tactics or the mistreatment of prisoners. He also admires those who wield great power and the restraint necessary not to abuse it.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Barriston is an old man now, but still remembers when the Church of the Light was the dominant religion. He remembers that the world was better off with them and wishes to see the Silver Knights resurgence.

Wealth & Financial state

Barriston earns a decent wage as a Chaplain of the Silver Knights. While he is by no means as rich as he was as a noble, he still has more money than he knows what to do with. Often, he will simply put excess funds back into the Silver Knights treasury, rather than keep it for himself.
