Biturreiði, the Burrowing Fang
The first Vestige to made in nearly three millennia, this bearded axe is the emotional trauma and anger of Valdr Varinsson made manifest. Colder than anything known to man, elf, or even the gods, it’s touch chills to the bone, inflicting not only frostbite, but also a sense of anguish that only a parent who’s lost a child could understand.
History
Biturreiði’s history is brief but heartbreaking. As the newest Vestige of Ascension to be created, it follows the same rules of creation- a literal manifestation of a God's mortal emotions before their ascension; however, Biturreiði is different in many ways.
Whereas Uroksvaal was created by Hrothmunds rage and bloodlust, or Hjartagjafi was made by malice and cruelty, Biturreiði was forged with anguish and sorrow. During Valdrs imprisonment at the hands of the Resurgence, the loss of Aelwyd and Sigrun formed the foundations of the weapon, only needing a focal point to coalesce in the physical world. During Valdrs first display of his godly might, the axe manifested itself as he held Ominotago by the throat, hoisting her aloft before burying the axe blade deep into her shoulder, nearly splitting her in half in his rage. Almost immediately after, Scathach charged in to confront her rival, only to be met by a face-full of icy metal, felling two lords in only the first few moments of its physical existence. The axe would soon meet the foes it felled that day within their own realms, leaving behind only shattered remnants and a blood oath yet to be fulfilled.
Valdr refrained from using Biturreiði, seeing it as only a temporary weapon to help him fulfill the blood oath he’d made with Hrothmund- find those responsible for his family’s deaths and end them. In return, The God of Valor would do his best to bring back Aelwyd and Sigrun, and annul Valdrs godhood. However, when he discovered that those responsible also numbered among his closest allies, his will broke, and Valdr fully embraced the weapon as his own.
After Valdr realized, Reyna and Edric's betrayal, he began to use the axe more than his normal armaments, keeping Thorn as a backup, but giving Uroksvaal back to Hrothmund.
