End of the World
The End of the World was the process by which Drones systematically overtook humanity's chokehold on the the planet Earth during the early 2070s.
History
The year 2070 was not a good time for humanity. LSECT policies dominated the parts of the world overseen by the UN, and unaffiliated countries had their own methods for handling the public existence of magic. In the United States, Theta Project led to an unprecedented level of brutality between the magically gifted people working for the government and the "monsters" being hunted down in the streets. Behind the scenes, a swamp of bureaucracy made changing the system almost impossible. By November, it was all but decided that the only way for the United States to move forward was with a massive shift in authority. That shift came with the creation of the Drones. Originally a lab experiment gone wrong, the original Drones were archaic humans-turned-war-machines that prioritized survival above all else; but as the fighting became more intense, coalitions who despised the government's actions began to rally behind the military might of the Drones, and some even wanted to join them in body and soul. This led to the creation of more Drones, which invited new ideas and improvements to all of the Drones, which inspired the creation of more Drones, and so on and so on, until the US government was finally beseiged by an army of indestructible posthumans with perfect control over both magic and technology. During the New Year of 2071, Drones completely destroyed the United States as a civic body. With their vast network of cooperative minds they effortlessly tore apart the old systems and built new ones. Humans and Drones would work together; humans would work towards becoming self-sufficient with assistance from the Drones, and Drones would find "more of their kind" among the humans to take under their wing. By 2073, the United Nations was dissolved, and an endless sea of Drones wasted no time in taking over the rest of the planet. World peace was achieved through a combination of sheer force and persuasion. By 2074, a fourth of humanity had been converted into Drones at their own request. The remaining three fourths lived in a peaceful society of interconnected communes, working together to increase the quality of life for everyone on the planet. And so, in 2075, life was good. Drones were working towards exploring the stars, and humans were content to live out their lives in harmony. It bore little resemblance to the world as it previously existed. At some point, Drones began to refer to the takeover as the end of the world, and the term stuck. Now, they live a different kind of story.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
