Republic of Cailsmarch

NOTICE   On this day, The Eighteenth of August in the year 1918, the Republic of Cailsmarch declares independence from the Cailaran Republic and establishes itself as a whole, unified and Democratic country. Joining with our brethren from the now-defunct Theocracy of Cailar, we express the Equity of Man above all else and the need for all to be given the same opportunity to succeed in the face of oppression and strife. We put forth as President of the Council Sir Franklin Preston, whose contributions to the succession cannot be understated.   For the Equity of Man   The People's Republic of Cailsmarch
The Republic of Cailsmarch is one of the many splinter countries that have formed since the fall of Cailar in 1903. Formed in 1918 after the ruins of the Theocracy of Cailar merged with a faction from the Cailaran Republic, the Republic of Cailsmarch distinguishes itself from its neighbors and predecessors by the platform of equity; that every man should be given the same chance to succeed in life.   A platform that, while initially popular, has led the Republic into no small amount of trouble.

The Nature of Equity

The Republic of Cailsmarch was founded on the idea that not only are all men Equal, but all men should have equal opportunity. However, after their initial constitution was co-opted from three previous countries bearing a variation of Cailar's name, They soon began to run into conundrums. The first being, how to ensure that every man truly has the equal opportunity of his neighbor. Will the humblest of farmers truly have the same ability and opportunity to succeed as any in the senate? Would a bum who had never finished his primary education be counted on the same level as the scientists who were so boldy holding the country's technological progress together? The debates carried on for over a year, and, holding to their creed, every man was offered an equal opportunity to speak on the matter.   By 1919, it was decided that a general schooling would occur, to ensure that every man in the Republic was on equal footing. Teachers were conscripted and drafted from all over, ironically taking away from the generation of students who needed them most, to hold General Sessions about what every man in the Republic was expected to know. The Forum on this curriculum carried on for another six months before classes actually started. By 1920, every man had been 'adequately' trained in what Man was expected to know, and the floodgates to opportunity were opened. Followed by a rapid shutting shortly after when it was realized that, when given equal opportunity to pursue all options, all men were naturally drawn to the opportunities that paid the most and required the least effort, leading to a lack of farmers, miners, street sweepers, and all the menial jobs that a country naturally required to function.   Then, of course, there was the matter of the women.

Foreign Relations

One of the strongest buoys for the Republic's success is its relations with the Kingdom of Ruben to the north; the Republic's wide, gentle plains are ideal for farmland and cattle grazing, giving them strong exports to a kingdom that has struggled to establish its own food supply. This has led to positive relations between the two countries, and has allowed the Republic to stay afloat financially.   Its relations with its sister countries, on the other hand, have been much poorer; The Cailaran Republic is sore about the loss of valuable territory and political experts after the succession, and only the nebulous peace treaty keeps them from waging war again. The Cailsmoch Confederacy fares little better, being the oldest of the three states who looks down on this newest contender for the name of Cailar. Though positive dialouge has been traded recently between the two, ultimately the three states still circle each other warily, waiting for a moment of weakness.   Mira, the last neighbor who still stands, has congenial relations with the Republic, but is ultimately waiting for the three states to settle down and get their acts together before committing to a long political relationship.

For the Equity of Man

President of the Council

President Franklin Preston is the first (and hopefully not last) leader of the Republic of Cailsmarch. Charismatic with the genuine belief that all men should bee given equal opportunity, he works tirelessly to keep his fledgling country running. He is, however, faced with the fact that maybe not every man should be given equal opportunity.
