Hueytepec
Hueytepec is the tallest point on the island of Quizqueya, rising only slightly above its neighbor and twin, Omeconetepec. It is the seat of Yukayotecuhtli, the god of the mountains and patron of kings. The priests of the Tecpāntin are all trained and anointed in the shadow of Hueytepec. They are brought there as young children from across Quizqueya and raised in the Tepancalmecac, a fortified temple built on the mountain's lower slopes. In the days before the Tecpāntin dominated the political landscape of Quizqueya, Tepancalmecac was attacked and besieged several times. Although such events are rare now, the traditions of the temple were forged under harsher conditions and remain strong today. Throughout its history, Tepancalmecac was never taken by an attacking army, and the priests maintain its defenses so that it never will be.
Notable Spirits
The god Yukayotecuhtli rules over the mountain of Hueytepec, but he is not the only spirit who resides there. He is served by a portion of the Opiyomeh, the ancestral host, in this case the spirits of the ancient priests who lived in and defended Tepancalmecac. In death, they are given high status on the mountain and serve to defend it from all who fail to treat Hueytepec and Yukayotecuhtli with the respect and deference the god demands.
Geography
Hueytepec is famously difficult to climb, and it is said that only those destined to rule are able to reach the summit. All others are swept from the mountainside by the wrath of Yukayotecuhtli, who will not tolerate a lesser being to ascend. It is part of Quizqueya's central mountain range, where each peak is the home of a high god of the Teteoh. The lower two thirds of the mountain are covered in pine forests, while the upper slopes are bare rock and are often coated with snow and ice.
