Jobin and his family are not native to Regent. They were driven away due to monstrosity-related racism.
Jobin has been a hard worker since arriving at Regent at about 10 years of age. Today, about 9 years later, he works hard to prove himself and has been seeking some sort of rite of adulthood to become a recognized adult.
Jobin grew up with Leysa and Sansa Faust, learning and completing chores together.
Jobin is on the expedition both due to his stated knowledge of the outside world and his desire to prove himself useful. He fears being banished/rejected again.
Graf is on the expedition in part to keep an eye on Jobin as a favor to his daughter.
Jobin has always been impressed with Sansa Faust who quickly picked up fighting techniques that elluded others their age.
