The Holy Order of Dawn

Often just referred to as "the Dawn", this religious order was prime faith of the people of Aethelas before its collapse. The primary deity was Phaegos, god of light, life, fire, the sun, and other associated concepts.

Mythology & Lore

There were many gods in the Order of Dawn's pantheon, ones which dwell in the natural light that comes from the sun, the prime god Phaegos. This god oversaw every living thing and blessed them out of divine grace with their warmth and brightness. Through reverence, honor and devotion, an individual may have proven themselves to the gods and earn their favour.   The gods were seen to have a heavy impact on day-to-day life, having a hand in everything from one's daily luck to their entire life's destiny. Every action was watched and judged by them, putting a lot of pressure on an individual's actions and behaviour.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The Order of Dawn has been intrinsically linked to the monarchy governing Aethelas. New kings or queens were given the blessing of Phaegos himself and baptised in sunlight, giving them the impression of having divine approval.

Communion of the Silver Sun

Within the ranks of the Holy Order of Dawn, an organised faith that had long since surpassed its prime, some saw the corruption and hollowness that rotted away at the Dawn's core. Rather than breaking away to start a splinter group, some took it upon themselves to form a supreme force who's purpose it was to root out this corruption and retain the Order of Dawn's integrity, and maybe one day, to restore to the glimmering beacon of hope it once was.

Order of Dusk

After the fall of Aethelas, the island of Rethreim was left relatively disease-free for a period of time, until the Withering Plague mutated and the people were radically changed.   Living in Rethreim post-outbreak was a dark and dire time. Many who once observed the Dawn had forsaken their faith in the gods. Out of this period of despair rose a new order called the Order of Dusk, based in the belief that the gods had abandoned them and they must carve out a new existence for themselves. Among the dread elves that survived, this order persists today as the dominant religion of Rethreim.
