Cage Creatures
As the ancient, magocratic empire of Nel'Akhiron crumbled, it's people decimated and spread to the wind, their unethical experiments and tortures remain, a stain on the world that lies buried but not forgotten in the ruins of the old kingdom.
In the darkest catacombs and deepest dungeons, rusted iron cages hold what were once people or animals (or some combination), crammed into tiny prisons, barely able to move and struggling for life. Without their carers to give them food and water, many perished. But in some abandoned laboratories and vaults, these creatures managed to survive with a little help from another - the collections of animate fungoid matter known as Mustites.
Together, the mustites and cage creatures have entered into a partnership of survival, resulting in a horrifying aberration that haunts underground caverns and dungeons, often able to shuffle or drag itself around it's environment, feasting on whatever it manages to grab from between the bars of its cramped prison.
Basic Information
Dietary Needs and Habits
The amorphic piles of flesh and limbs covered in a moist, animate fungus must hunt in their deep tunnels and caves to grab what they can, pulling it back into the cage where an accessible mouth can devour it. Out of necessity, many of these monsters have learned to be mobile. Their diet will mainly consist of bugs, fish, and whatever other prey they come across in their dark, dismal surroundings, including wayward or foolhardy adventurers.
Additional Information
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
In the dank places of Ikhan the mustites dwell, once cultivated and kept for their waste-disposal properties. In places where mustites were kept, these creatures were able to subsist off the waste of the mindless abberations kept in cages by the Akhir. The fungoids wrap around and merge with the formless flesh within, gaining all the sustenance it needs off the creature's filth and refuse. In return, the fungus keeps the cage creature relatively free from disease and even strengthens their atrophied muscles, giving them the ability to hunt and feed on larger life forms.
