Brood Sovereign of the Deep
It is not known if the Brood Sovereign has always existed in the deepest, darkest parts of the oceans of Cyllarune since time began, or if they were delivered by some all-powerful cosmic meddler. Regardless, even the humblest of fishermen know of their existence, mother and father to all sea monsters and leviathans, and ruler of the ocean floor.
In actuality, the Brood Sovereign was one of many creatures that escaped the terrible magical experiments of the Akhir within the City of Thunder and Tears. When the empire of Nel'Akhiron fell, the city sank and the awful acts the wizards within had committed were unleashed.
The Brood Sovereign managed to survive in the darkest, coldest trenches, eventually managing to spawn their brood all on their own. It is believed that they are the precursor and brood-parent of the Nethraxxi, the aberrant creatures of claws and tentacles that inhabit the nightmares of every sailor. It is said that the Brood Sovereign still lives after thousands of years, continually spawning new offspring and building a hive of twisted creatures in the ocean deeps.
If this is true, their progeny would number in the tens of thousands, judging from the assumed population Nethraxxi, though none can say for sure. From what little information is known about the Brood Sovereign, they are agender and can reproduce asexually. They are capable of laying and fertilising thousands of eggs on their own.
Physical Description
There are no recorded accounts of an individual ever laying eyes on the Brood Sovereign of the Deep. Those who are able to travel to these depths and could glimpse the hive for themselves are never seen again. It is only hoped that the myriad children of the Sovereign keep to their home at the bottom of the sea, and do not decide, either on their own or under orders from their aquatic monarch, to wage war upon those that dwell on the surface.
