24 - 9/2/24 : The Way of the Warrior

"You fundamentally misunderstand the situation. I am not asking for a favor. You are not reaching down and giving succor to a poor devil down on his luck. To reach a hand down to someone, they must be beneath you! And I am beneath no one."   - Levistus, Archduke of Stygia, Lord of the Frozen Throne
The Lonesome Few finally managed to get some rest after their harrowing ordeal. In the morning, they were greeted by Sheriff Southwell as they woke; the Sheriff thanked them once again for their aid in defending the Taiga, even if so much was lost in the end. He handed them a casualty & damage report that he and Vicar Zamphros had prepared, revealing the staggering extent of losses incurred by the Chardalyn Dragon's rampage. Over 1,300 Ten Towners lost their lives in the span of a day, and six of the Ten Towns were either completely destroyed or otherwise rendered completely uninhabitable.   The sheriff also described the situation at the refugee camp, which had been named (perhaps ironically) 'Camp Daybreak'. Some refugees had gone to the remaining four towns to seek succor and shelter, but a vast majority had found themselves at Camp Daybreak. The sheriff reckoned that they would be able to hold for a time with careful rationing and smart planning, but the reality was that unless the Eternal Winter was ended soon, all the refugees would likely perish in little over a month.   The party reconvened to decide their course of action. Veszaltyrr spoke of important information he wished to share with the rest of the group, but assured the others that there would be time to do so after they settled their affairs with the Ten Towns. He would see to preparation for the journey ahead in the meantime, and agreed to take the Chardalyn Dragon's head back to the inn at Hartwick at Ragna's request.   The first task was to return to the ruins of Whiteridge, where Ragna intended to respectfully put the fallen Broken Blade warriors to rest with the aid of his remaining siblings. Brynjar, who was still at Camp Daybreak, agreed to accompany them - though they would need to travel to Mirlake first and pick up Sóley as well before meeting with the captured Valdis at Whiteridge.   Before the party departed to Mirlake, Tali stopped Melfina to speak with her. They revealed that they intended to stay behind; with their connection to the dreary Shadowfell and the very concept of death as a half Shadar-Kai, Tali was in a unique position to help the people of the Ten Towns process their grief and say goodbye to their fallen loved ones. Tali stumbled in delivering this news, seemingly ashamed that they no longer wished to fight for their life, but Melfina assured Tali that there was no shame in saying that they had had enough.   Tali cheered up at this assurance, and teased Melfina, for they believed she had eyes for her 'dashing' master, Veszaltyrr. However, Tali grew serious and warned Melfina to be cautious around him; although Tali knew that Veszaltyrr was very important to Melfina, Tali felt an ominous aura around him, saying that death "followed him like a shadow".   At Mirlake, the Lonesome Few and Brynjar met with the Velryns and Sóley. The youngest of Siegmar's children had a difficult time accepting the Broken Blade's defeat, especially at the hands of 'soft' southerners. She grew angry at Ragna for not doing enough to aid their people, but Ragna assured her that such death and loss was part of the warrior's life that Sóley wanted so badly. Sóley begrudgingly agreed to see the departed spirits of the Broken Blade off, but still believed Siegmar to be in the right.   At the ruins of Whiteridge, the party was greeted by the boisterous and merry Thokgrim. He described the battle and the glory that had been won by all who fought in it, and praised the battle prowess of the Broken Blade, the Ten Towners, and the Dwarves of Duhngrave. He also revealed the manner of Fannar's death at the hands of Siegmar, much to Sóley's shock. Although Thokgrim had much respect for 'Groghmir' as a warrior, he believed him to be a failure of a father - something that Ragna heartily agreed with.   The party next met Dahlia, who was relieved to see them alive. She thanked the Lonesome Few, for the battle of Whiteridge could have gone much worse had the Chardalyn Dragon not been stopped. When asked if she had seen Captain Cinderswift or Valdis, Dahlia gave Ragna a letter from the Captain, which asked them to meet him at the Black Cabin northwest of Hartwick.   Afterwards, the party spoke to the Duhngrave Dwarves, who were collecting the bodies of their dead and laying their fallen Lord Bellen to rest in a stone sarcophagus. Barador Blackhammer, new lord of Duhngrave by right of succession, was present, grieving both his father and brother's deaths. He was less than enthused to see the party, and confessed his complicated feelings on the matter; though he knew that Bellen and Beren had made their choices and died honorable deaths, he still felt anger and sorrow that they died for such a cause when Duhngrave could have solidified their own defenses and weathered the storm. Barador stated that as Lord of Duhngrave, he vowed to never have his people join the Ten Towners in battle again - theirs was already a dying settlement founded on tragedy and loss, and they could not afford such a loss again.   Ragna understood Barador's grief and allowed the dwarf to take a swing at him - an offer that Barador gladly took. Ragna also promised their axe to the dwarves of Duhngrave should they ever need it.   Doluma Sunblight was also present, and was much happier to see the party. She was gladdened to hear of her father's demise, though she was quite surprised to hear that he had been deceived by Levistus. Regardless, she offered her well wishes for the party's further ventures, and thanked them for ending Xardorok's reign of terror.   With Valdis still with Cinderswift at the Black Cabin, Ragna decided to lead the Broken Blade pyre without her. She, Brynjar, Sóley, and Thokgrim helped gather the bodies of the fallen, and then said a few words of prayer and reverence as a pyre was lit. Ragna hoped that despite the futility of the Siegmar's war, the Broken Blade warriors and their siblings would find peace and honor among their ancestors. Although Sóley remained silent, still shocked by Siegmar's betrayal and slaying of Fannar, Brynjar offered some words as well - though he left the tribe on bad terms, part of him would always be a Broken Blade tribesman.   After the pyre's conclusion, the party (plus Dahlia, Sóley, and Brynjar) made their way south to meet Captain Cinderswift at the Black Cabin. Cinderswift awaited them there and greeted them casually, but reveals that he had ulterior motives - he was paid a great deal to arrange a meeting between the party and the devil Mendrion. Mendrion arrived, greeting the party tauntingly but politely, and allowed his body to be used as a mouthpiece for his lord and master - Levistus, Archduke of the frozen fifth hell of Stygia.   Levistus, an icy devil of hatred and fury imprisoned upon his cold throne by Lord Asmodeus, spoke to the party through an eternally frozen grin. He revealed that he had a long-standing enmity for La Saia, whose interference had robbed him of a great source of power - the Mythallar of the Secret City of Ythryn. He shared the following information with the party:
  • There existed a secret city - Ythryn - that laid underground beneath the lost city of Hollowfaust.
  • Hollowfaust was built by Hyperborean Mages after the fall of Tsen, who sought to recapture the glory of their lost city.
  • Ythryn built in secret beneath Hollowfaust, structured around an arcane contraption known as a Mythallar. The Mythallar functioned as a phenomenally powerful arcane battery, which established a connection to a sufficiently powerful extraplanar being and then gathered massive amounts of arcane energy generated by sacrificing souls to the extraplanar being. With this gathered energy, miracles of magecraft could be performed through use of the Mythallar.
  • A secret shadow council of Hollowfaust mages used Ythryn, the Mythallar, and the souls secretly sacrificed to suffuse the very air of Hollowfaust with magic, allowing for great feats of arcanima that were as simple as breathing. A recapturing of Tsen's glory, gained at a price few in Hollowfaust above knew.
  • Souls were sacrificed to Levistus in an agreement - he provided power to the Mythallar, and in exchange he gathered the power of the sacrificed souls to prepare an escape from his imprisonment on his frozen throne in Stygia
  • The Mythallar was maintained and guarded by the Iriolarthas family. The last of them, Minerva Iriolarthas, was persuaded by her confidante and lover, the 'Winter Witch', that the operation of the Mythallar was a horrid and cruel practice, and thus Minerva sabotaged the operation of the Mythallar.
  • Levistus, enraged that his siphon of souls had been disrupted, retaliated against Minerva for breaking their agreement and transformed her into something awful that he cared not to describe to the party - something that slowly drained the souls remaining in Ythryn's repository to maintain its existence. The stopping of the Mythallar resulted in the eventual fall and desertion of Hollowfaust.
  • The Winter Witch left Ythryn and Hollowfaust and sought a means of preserving her lost lover until such a time that she could be saved from Levistus could be found. According to the diary found in the Lost Spire, the Winter Witch eventually met with the primal deity La Saia, and the two eventually merged into one entity.
  • La Saia used her powers over ice and snow to freeze Hollowfaust, preserving her beloved and halting intruders from interfering with the Mythallar.
  • Two years ago, hundreds of years after the fall of Hollowfaust, someone managed to break through these defenses and partially reactivate the Mythallar, awakening its defenders and causing the souls to be drained once again. La Saia, enraged, brought the Mythallar to a halt and started the Eternal Winter, seeking to use the sacrifices offered by the residents of the Taiga and the kills sown by her followers to gather more souls and sustain Minerva further without the use of the Mythallar.
  • The Codicil of White, a holy La Saian text, was the key to breaking through the glacier surrounding Hollowfaust and the entrance to Ythryn. The Codicil was located in the frozen castle Grimskalle, located on the Sapphire Isle across the Valrua Sea - the coldest place in all of Lloegyr.
Levistus offered the party a deal; a magic ship to be captained by Captain Cinderswift, which could survive the nigh-suicidal sea voyage across the Valrua. He maintained that approaching by air was impossible thanks to La Saia's pet roc, and that no other ship could survive the passage. In exchange, they would venture to Ythryn with the Codicil of White, reactivate the Mythallar for him and consign the remaining souls in Ythryn to him. The party would then be free to use the Mythallar to force an end to the Eternal Winter as well.   Melfina's keen insight allowed her to realize that Levistus was telling a half-truth; that there was no other ship capable of making the passage across the Valrua, but that did not mean there was no other way.   The party tried to negotiate with Levistus, initially on board with the idea. However, trepidation over signing an infernal contract with him revealed the simmering rage and hatred behind the frozen archdevil, who furiously admonished the party for not obeying him. The party decided that they would reach the Sapphire Isle without his help, and so Levistus ordered his minions inside the Black Cabin to slay the prisoner Cinderswift had captured during the Battle of Whiteridge - Ragna's sister Valdis - before disappearing along with Mendrion.   Ragna sprung into action and demanded from Cinderswift Valdis' location. Cinderswift stammered, shocked that the party didn't take the deal, and eventually relented. Ragna charged in with the party to find Valdis being attacked by merregons, which they were able to slay before Valdis was killed. However, she lost her remaining eye in the process.   Tearfully, Ragna apologized for allowing Valdis to be caught in such a situation. As Bryn tended to Valdis' wounds, Ragna returned to Cinderswift and tried to kill him. The captain was thrown into a nearby ravine, but he managed to misty step away. Ragna vowed to kill Cinderswift the next time she saw him, as the captain fled in fear.   Valdis reacted poorly to the news of the Broken Blade's demise, and called Ragna a traitor despite her sibling's insistence that they did the right thing in stopping the Broken Blade's invasion plans.   Ragna espoused his desire to rebuild the tribe under a new name and a new way of life, one that allowed for cooperation with neighboring societies instead of raiding and pillaging for what is needed. Valdis, demoralized by her injury, was highly skeptical, but also knew that the Broken Blade she knew was dead.   Ragna declared a new dawn for the barbarians of the Taiga, and proclaimed her new name - Ragna Alfsburr, the Warrior of Ice, the Frozen Flame, and the Eternal Pyre - thus also revealing that Dahlia was her maternal half-sister. Dahlia reacted with warm surprise, and although she didn't consider herself Broken Blade, she was thankful to have gained family after all the pain and loss of the Eternal Winter. She asked if Ragna had known their mother at all, and although Ragna never got to know Alfrunn, he did suddenly remember the chardalyn amulet that had been left to him as a gift from her - an amulet within which was stored an unknown spell.   Ragna took the chardalyn amulet given by his mother and shattered it to release the spell trapped inside. Positive energy overflowed throughout the room, healing all present - including Valdis, whose newly missing eye was restored.   Valdis, bitter yet thankful, agreed to see what the future of Ragna's ideal held. She decided to go to the orcs of Storm's Call for the time being, taking Bryn and Soley with her, to ride out the Eternal Winter until the Lonesome Few were able to end it. Bryn intended to stay by Gleha's side at Camp Daybreak, but would help the other two get there first.   The party returned to Hartwick and the inn they owned to reconvene with Veszaltyrr. They spoke of their encounter with Levistus, which to Veszaltyrr's chagrin, had revealed much of what he intended to tell the party. Veszaltyrr gave his own input, revealing the last of the truth behind the Eternal Winter.
  • Veszaltyrr had become acquainted with two other arcane scholars during his time further south - Dzaan and Avarice, both of whom were also interested in the lost lore of Ythryn. The three stole and analyzed old texts and discovered the lore of the Mythallar, but the alliance did not last due to mutual distrust and differing goals.
  • The necromancer Dzaan had a cultural interest in Hollowfaust itself as a bastion of moral and safely practiced necromancy, and did not wish to reactivate the Mythallar at all. Instead, he wished to restore the city of Hollowfaust and have it act as a beacon for similarly minded necromancers throughout the world.
  • Avarice was a loyal servant of Levistus, and cared only for reactivating the Mythallar on her master's behalf to aid in his escape from the Frozen Throne.
  • Veszaltyrr wished to use the artifact he possessed - the Heart of Cygnus - as a beacon for the souls of Ythryn, charging his own artifact and restoring it to its full power at Levistus' expense. With the artifact back to full power, he intended to continue his crusade against the goddess Lolth.
  • All three scholars went north to the Taiga roughly two years ago, but Veszaltyrr found Hollowfaust first. Leaving his apprentice Melfina behind in Lystheim with little to no knowledge of his goals to protect her from the horrors of Ythryn, Veszaltyrr managed to magically breach the glacier and entered the lost city. He found the Mythallar within, and while studying it, he inadvertently activated it, restarting its soul draining process. Veszaltyrr was ambushed and slain by the Mythallar's defenders soon after, forcing him to awaken in a far away clone body - the body accompanying the party in the present day.
  • Veszaltyrr speculated that the defender of the Mythallar was none other than Minerva Iriolarthas, bound to Levistus' will in whatever form she now took. However, due to the traumatic nature of his previous demise, he was unable to recall the exact details.
  • Thus, due to his actions, Veszaltyrr believed that his actions provoked La Saia into deactivating the Mythallar once again and then endeavoring to replace the souls lost by its accidental use - thus rendering Veszaltyrr responsible for the beginning of the Eternal Winter.
  • Wishing to both rectify his mistake and empower the Heart of Cygnus, Veszaltyrr stated his intent to aid the party on their quest to reach the Sapphire Isle, even though they had rebuffed Levistus - a fact that Veszaltyrr regretted, but was able to live with.
Without a way to reach the Sapphire Isle, Veszaltyrr suggested that the party speak to someone who truly knew and had a bond with the land of the Taiga. His hopes were that someone would know of a way to cross the Valrua without chartering a magic ship or provoking the ire of La Saia's roc. Alith suggested the druid Gleha, to which Veszaltyrr agreed.   Melfina reminded the party that she wished to speak to La Saia using the Ring of Winter. Although Ragna and Alith thought this to be a bad idea, Veszaltyrr agreed with the course of action; gathering information could be very useful, as long as they were careful. Alith and Ragna were supportive of this idea after some discussion.   The party agreed to take a moment to gather their thoughts and their questions to ask the Frostmaiden, finding it better to approach such a task with a solidified game plan. Soon, they would speak to La Saia, hoping to learn whatever they could about the Sapphire Isle and the Castle of Grimskalle...

LA SAIA, THE FROSTMAIDEN

Queen of the Ice and Snow and Mistress of Cold and Stillness, La Saia is a minor deity whose domain grants her a great deal of power over the freezing climes of the Frostgale Taiga. To unknown ends, she takes to the sky every night atop a roc and traces the auroras in the skies above, blocking out the warming rays of the sun and giving rise to the blight known as the Everlasting Rime.   The Lonesome Few has made an enemy of La Saia and the cult that worships her, for to oppose the Eternal Winter is to oppose the Frostmaiden. Little is known of her cryptic motives, but one thing is certain; La Saia will not loosen her glacial grip on the Taiga without a fight.

THE LONESOME FEW

Ragna Íssbur - A brusque, uncompromising human barbarian who is quick to anger and who is always eager to put an axe in the face of any problems. Ragna's heart was replaced with an orb of fire-infused chardalyn shortly afterr birth, which has resulted in Ragna's ability to control his own blood as a boiling weapon. Capable of transforming parts of their body to ice, Ragna is unaffected by the excruciating cold that holds all of Frostgale Taiga in its grasp, and is thus the perfect warrior to stand against the horrors that thrive in the ice and snow.   Ragna was once of the Broken Blade tribe, but became estranged from their people after their father, King Siegmar, tried to sacrfiice Ragna to La Saia to avert a prophecy. Still, Ragna has sworn to rebuild the Broken Blade from the ashes of King Siegmar's failures, and to honor the memory of her fallen siblings.
Melfina Eres - A mysterious drow wizard who draws magic from the air like paint across a canvas. Melfina has been stranded in Frostgale Taiga ever since the Everlasting Rime has begun, as she was left behind by her mentor who disappeared soon before it began. Inquisitive and well-read, her arcane knowledge may be key in ending the winter. Wielding the powerful artifact known as the Ring of Winter, Melfina is perhaps closer to La Saia the Frostmaiden than any mortal in the Taiga.   After years of searching, Melfina was finally reunited with her master, Veszaltyrr Oussndar, and her confidence has soared as a result. She is fully committed to plundering the depths of the lost city of Hollowfaust, whose secrets may be the key to ending the Eternal Winter.
Alithkav - A githyanki artificer and 'daughter' of the githyanki god-queen, the lich Vlaakiith. Alith was an engineer aboard the pirate spelljammer, Zerthimon's Arrow, before it crashed after being trapped in La Saia's domain. Stranded in the Snowdrift Flatlands in what might be the worst time to be so in Lloegyr's history, Alith now must put her might and mind to surviving the winter; all while looking over her shoulder for enemies seeking her demise.   Having slain her ceremorphosized captain, she is now truly the last survivor of Zerthimon's Arrow. After a brief time away from the party tracking the arrival of a githyanki spelljammer, she has rejoined the Lonesome Few, and intends to fight for her freedom from both her people and from La Saia's frozen gaze.
Veszaltyrr Oussndar - A dark elven sorcerer who wields powerful magics from the lawful plane of Mechanus. Veszaltyrr is a wandering philosopher and scholar who seeks powerful magical artifacts and lost spells in pursuit of his ultimate goal; the complete and utter destruction of the drow goddess Lolth. Having long been Melfina's mentor and master in the arcane arts, Veszaltyrr led Melfina to the Frostgale Taiga shortly before the onset of the Eternal Winter.   Two years ago, Veszaltyrr attempted to breach the defenses of the lost city of Hollowfaust, resulting in his trauamatic and sudden death, and it took the same amount of time for him to find and rejoin Melfina in his weakened cloned body. Having reunited with his student, Veszaltyrr has joined the party to seek Hollowfaust's secrets and the Winter's end.
Peanut & Blamo - Discovered in the downed nautiloid the Id Ascendant, Peanut is a miniature giant space hamster who has taken a liking to Alith and her inventions; in particular the mobile cannon Blamo. Despite all common knowledge leading most to believe that hamsters cannot handle complicated machinery, Peanut has settled into her role as the 'pilot' of Blamo, operating the powerful mini-cannon from a sealed cockpit within. Blamo, already a deadly armament when guided by Alith, is now more precise and mobile with Peanut at the helm.

NON-PLAYER CHARACTERS

Tali.png
Tali von Corthala - A half-elven researcher from the southern city of Revelmoore, who traveled to Frostgale Taiga to investigate the local fauna just before the onset of the Eternal Winter. They are a half-Shadar-Kai, and their innate connection to the darkness of the Shadowfell puts them at odds with the forces of nature, much to their frustration. They have established a firm bond with Melfina, finding her to be a fellow intellectual.
Sherriff Markham Southwell - The leader of Lystheim's militia, this dedicated lifelong military man is the highest ranking commander in the Ten Towns, and leads the defense of Whiteridge against the invading Broken Blade barbarians. With his years of experience, he advised Speaker Duvessa on many matters. Despite his middle age, he went toe-to-toe with some of the frost giants marching with the Broken Blade, and managed to survive the great battle at Whiteridge.
Brynjar Siegsson - One of Ragna's siblings, this eloquent half-elf is an herbalist by trade and does not relish fighting like many of his fellows. He was expelled from the Broken Blade tribe for refusing to go along with their invasion of the Taiga, and is now a student of the firbolg druid, Gleha.
Garret Velryn - A human scout for Mirlake who serves as a wilderness guide. He adores the wilderness and spends much of his time there when not at home with his husband, Keegan. He was was saved by the party's timely intervention on Famrial Mountain. He has agreed to act as the party's guide to the northern expanse at a later date, and is currently keeping an eye on Ragna's younger sister, Sóley.
Keegan Velryn - A human man in his thirties, Keegan is a fisherman in Mirlake who lives with his husband, Garret Velryn, who works as a wilderness guide. A native of Mirlake, Keegan knows the Mirrored Reservoir like the back of his hand. With his husband returned to him, Keegan now enjoys what time he has with the barbarian invasion looming overhead.
Sóley Siegsdóttir - Youngest of Ragna's siblings, Sóley was Ragna's shadow growing up, and idolized the fiery barbarian. She recently completed her rite of passage and helped to take down an ogre with a party of her own, earning her the epithet 'The Steel Flurry'. She has conflicted feelings on the invasion, but the truth of Siegmar's betrayal of their people assured her loyalty to Ragna.
Thokgrim the Stormlord - Thokgrim is a towering orc who wields a large, black-iron maul carved in the image of his god: Gromm the Thunderer, he who commands the bolts from on high. Thokgrim is unusually friendly and diplomatic for his kind, and leads his fellow Stormcaller orcs in championing a philosophy known as The Code of Our Fathers.   After defeating Hortog, Fist of the Orc-Father, in honorable ritual combat at Votar Venak Aghmat, Thokgrim became the chieftain of the newly renamed Storm's Call. He has proven his might and power by emerging victorious against King Siegmar in brutal combat.
Dahlia Kaltro - A huntress from the town of Whiteridge. She has taken it upon herself to solve a series of murders that have targeted people who have fled the fate of being sacrificed to La Saia, the Frostmaiden. She is a follower of Silvanath the Oak Father, and is an expert tracker and survivalist.   Having traveled with the party previously, she has now returned to her hometown to help lead its defenses against the barbarians. Her marksmanship was critical in the survival of many Ten Towners at the battle of Whiteridge, and also led to the death of Úlfur Siegsson. It was also discovered that she is Ragna's maternal half-sister.
Barador Blackhammer - The younger of Lord Bellen Blackhammer's two sons. This dwarf sports black hair, a beard adorned with medals, and a black eyepatch emblazoned with the sigil of the dwarven god Barator, Master of the Forge. With his father and brother's deaths, Barador has become the Lord of Duhngrave, Heir to the Great Clan Duhnbeyl, and the bearer of the Curse of the Traitor Prince of Dol Gurhal.
Doluma Sunblight - Doluma Sunblight is the high priestess of Brúni-Bári, the dwarven twin-god of carousing & drink, in the dwarven hall of Duhngrave. She scorns moderation and treats visitors to brews from her collection, encouraging them to try adventurous spirits (all of which may not be entirely safe for consuption). Doluma is in fact the estranged daughter of the late King Xardorok of the Sunblight Clan, and takes comfort and delight in his demise. She accompanied her liege, Lord Blackhammer, in the fight at Whiteridge, and helped to avenge his death at the hands of Úlfur Siegsson.
Captain Ardyn Cinderswift - A human pirate stranded in Frostgale Taiga, he helped give the party their start at the beginning of their adventure. He seeks to capitalize on the Eternal Winter and come out on top, regardless of what happens. He was revealed to be the brother of the queen of Castorhage, having run away to seek a life of his own. He struck a bargain with the devil Mendrion, hoping that the party would agree to Archduke Levistus' offer - and when they refused, he became the Lonesome Few's enemy.
Mendrion - A cruel and calculating erinyes who serves Levistus, the frozen archdevil known as the Prince of Betrayal. He manipulated Xardorok Sunblight by posing as a devout priest of Don Duergedyn, compelling the tyrant to do his bidding. He took some amusement in the news of his brother Seraphiel's demise, and served as Levistus' herald to the party at the Black Cabin.
Levistus, Archduke of Stygia - Perhaps the most hated of all the devils in all the Nine Hells of Baator, Levistus has spent untold centuries seething in unmitigated fury from his imprisonment upon his Frozen Throne at the hands of Lord Asmodeus. He had an agreement with the mages of Hollowfaust that leveraged souls to aid in his escape, but the interference of La Saia in this plot has led to him opposing the Frostmaiden.   He offered the party a deal, asking them to secure the Mythallar of Ythryn to provide souls for his escape, in exchange for a ship with which they could cross the dangerous Valrua Sea. However, they refused, earning the ire of the archdevil forever more.
Valdís Siegsdóttir - One of Ragna's elder siblings and one of the best hunters of the Broken Blade tribe. She is an expert marksman despite missing an eye. Valdis is one of Ragna's more reasonable, even-tempered siblings; she is known for her sense of mercy compared to her brethren. She marched with her people on Whiteridge, but was subdued and carried away by Captain Cinderswift as part of his agreement with Ragna.
