09 - 9/12/24 : Reavers of the Blood Sea

"I am the last of the Skyhorn line. It would not do to see my family's legacy grow dim."
  • Lucien Skyhorn
  • Leaving Isabelle behind at the Annabel Lee to protect Captain Coppertree and her crew, the remaining party members proceeded to the lighthouse on the island. They found it to be locked, and broke down the door with Korra's strength.   Inside the lighthouse were several eelfolk - violent, aquatic humanoids that discharged electricity from specialized organs. Raija swapped her weaponry to utilize the power of thunder rather than lightning, and the battle was joined. Although the eelfolk fought ferociously, the party emerged victorious, though at no small cost to their health.   Investigating further, the Wayfinders found an iron door leading to the top of the lighthouse. They were unable to break through the door, which was superheated via the heat metal spell after the attempt was made. A voice within revealed that someone was on the other side; reconnaissance by Arueshalae found that an elderly human druid had barricaded himself within.   Utilizing Raija's levitate spell, the party greeted the man at his window, revealing that they were not eelfolk trying to trick him like he had first expected. The old man let the party in and introduced himself as Lucien Skyhorn, the hereditary keeper of the Skyhorn Lighthouse.   Lucien revealed that the lighthouse had a magical bowl below it - a bowl of water elemental summoning - that he and his ancestors used to protect the lighthouse from intruders and other threats. However, the bowl had been taken over by invasive eelfolk, who were using it to waylay passing ships and protect the caves below as their new lair.   Some of the crew of the Jade Lion had been captured by the eelfolk and were being forced to perform the summoning rites of the bowl of water elemental summoning. Since the water elementals were known to attack their summoners should their concentration falter, the prisoners made for perfect summoning fodder.   The Wayfinders agreed to head down after they took a rest to nurse their wounds, knowing that they could save no one if they perished. After this, they went through a trapdoor to the caves that they had found earlier, utilizing the flight spell and Arueshalae's wings to avoid creatures in the water while making their way to a nearby sandbar before beginning their exploration.   Within, they found the wrecked Jade Lion, which was still seaworthy, but had a snapped mast and thus could hoist no sails. On the ship they found the young Raf Frogwater, hungry and scared but alive. He was overjoyed to know that his father had gotten someone to find him, and Korra utilized her bestowed flight to carry Raf to the safety of the Annabel Lee.   While Korra was away, Raija and Aruehsalae were attacked by a water elemental emerging from the nearby waters of the cave, which had been summoned while the party had rested earlier. Raija and Arueshalae held their own against the elemental, badly damaging it in time for Korra to return and help finish the job.   Noticing that a crate of valuables had been dredged up from the water elemental being defeated, Korra dove into the water to search for more, alerting a trio of sharks that the party was able to quickly dispatch. The remaining crates were uncovered, containing more luxury items such as perfumes and fine silverware, as well as a magic poisonous dagger that was entrusted to Arueshalae. The remaining goods were condensed into Raija's genie bottle and one crate for ease of transport.   The party then chanced upon the captured prisoners, including Captain Aryn Hest, in the next room. They managed to catch the eelfolk on guard by surprise, slaying them quickly and quietly. They were able to free the prisoners, and Captain Hest took his crew to safety while the party pressed on to the final room where the leader of the eelfolk awaited them.   While the party battled the mighty eelfolk scourge and his minions, a dwarf sailor from the Jade Lion was being forced to chant the summoning incantations at the bowl of water elemental summoning out of fear for his life. Raija used hold person to break his concentration, freeing the party to focus on the fight.   The scourge put up a tremendous fight, as did his minions, but they were eventually felled to the last man - save for a single remaining eelfolk hunter, who tried to take Grigor as a hostage. On Korra's advice, Raija used a bead of force to capture the eelfolk hunter in a bubble shaped force field, preventing its death explosion from harming Grigor.   With all the crew of the Jade Lion rescued, the party reconvened with Captain Coppertree on the Annabel Lee. They said their goodbyes to Lucien Skyhorn, who thanked them for their timely aid with a gift of two Mariners Coins - good luck charms that could possibly win them good graces from any sailors they might meet in the future.   With the crew of the Jade Lion as well as his dear son returned to him, Benji Frogwater was quite happy to generously reward the Wayfinders once they returned to Florin's Cross. When they returned the sunken trade goods that they had recovered from the crates, he increased the reward further for their honesty, netting each member of the party 500 gold coins apiece.   The trip back to the Fairhaven Frontier was thankfully uneventful, though there were several new arrivals; a trio of new recruits, as well as a Hellknight from the Order of the Godclaw named Regill. Quistis, Hilda, and Vesper were also on-site testing the viability of Hilda casting teleportation circle for future excursions.   Edea welcomed the party back and explained the situation with the new recruits, telling the Wayfinders about the tragedy in Ard Glæs and the temporary alliance with Regill. The party decided to give the new recruits some space before introducing themselves, and expressed their intent to keep their distance from Regill. Korra related to the survivors of Ard Glæs, recalling the time her own clan was killed and her own guilt from failing to stop it.   Finally having some time for peace and quiet, Arueshalae approached Raija and Korra and once again asked them to go into detail about their dreams for her to record and ponder. Raija shared her often surreal dreams via a prepared journal of her own (with the racier dreams redacted for Arueshalae's sake), and Korra talked about her dreams of large amounts of food.   Arueshalae relayed her intent to make her rounds around the camp, asking each individual in the Fairhaven Frontier about their dreams so that she could paint a better picture of what mortals dreamed about. However, there was one individual who gave her pause; Vesper, whose beauty and closeness to the goddess Desna gave the Desna-worshiping Arueshalae fearful pause.   She begged her two companions to ask Vesper for her, since she was intensely curious what a chosen of Desna might dream about. Korra and Raija tried to urge Arueshalae to be brave and ask Vesper herself (with the two of them backing her up), but Arueshalae was unable to muster up the will to venture an attempt. Raija and Korra thus agreed to broach the topic with Vesper for her. The night was still young, and there were questions to be had…

    The Wayfinders

Korra - A leonin warrior known for her inability to ignore those in need, Korra has sought the Fairhaven Frontier in her pursuit to learn the heroic craft from the Fairhaven Four & company. She has a strong sense of honor, enjoys the thrill of battle, and has sworn to never ignore a sidequest.
Raija - A young djinn with storm giant ancestry hailing from the Plane of Air. Exiled and stripped of the greatest of her powers by the ruling noble djinni, she now wanders the Material Plane, seeking a cause that will help her prove her worth and someday give cause for her return to her homeland.
    Isabelle_Ratcliff.png
Isabelle Ratcliff - A young human ranger from a small village in the Unclaimed Lands. After her village was destroyed, she grabbed her gun and her pet 'cat' Sparkles and sought out the Fairhaven Frontier. She believes in making the region safer, and fiercely opposes radical entities like the Order of the Scepter Hellknights.
    Arueshalae.webp
Arueshalae - A beautiful, melancholy succubus who has forsaken her demonic nature and has embarked on the road to redemption. She has dedicated herself to Desna, and longs to atone for the horrors she committed before her awakening. She is terrified of physical touch and the temptations it brings to her, thus she tends to watch others curiously from a distance.
Sparkles - A small dragon hatchling that follows Isabelle. He is clearly a small dragon, but Isabelle believes him to be a strange cat.

    NON-PLAYER CHARACTERS

Lucien Skyhorn - An elderly human druid whose family has maintained Skyhorn Lighthouse for generations. He is the steward of the bowl of water elemental summoning that lies in the caves below the lighthouse, which had been captured by marauding eelfolk.
Raf Frogwater - The son, apprentice, and heir of Benji Frogwater of Frogwater & Sons Trading Company. He was aboard the wrecked Jade Lion, and was rescued by the Wayfinders.
Captain Aryn Hest - The hired ship captain of the Jade Lion. Thankful for his rescue from the eelfolk, he returned to his employer Benji with intent to help recover from the near-loss of the ship.
Captain Sheila Coppertree - A half-elven pirate in Florin's Cross and captain of the Annabel Lee. Captain Sheila agreed to risk the passage to the Skyhorn Lighthouse after the party saved her from vengeful pirates that she had beaten at dice.
Benji Frogwater - A halfling merchant in Florin's Cross. His ship, the Jade Lion, was lost in the vicinity of the Skyhorn Lighthouse. For the return of most of his crew and his son Raf, he rewarded the party handsomely.
Ephemeral - A tiefling grave cleric of Jamboor, God of Knowledge, Magic, and Death. Having lived most of her life in Ard Glæs, she had only recently take up stewardship of Jamboor's temple when it was destroyed along with the rest of the village. Though timid and demure, she is capable of great bravery when called to act. With her livelihood and home ripped away from her, she has joined the Fairhaven Frontier to prove worthy of her village's sacrifice.
Maki Maki - A kobold bard who left a life as a dragon's minion to wander the Unclaimed Lands, she had settled in Ard Glæs to work as a barmaid before it was torched by the Order of the Scepter. Cowardly but endlessly positive, Maki is primarily concerned with her own survival, and peppers her companions with encouragement to ensure that they can protect her and keep her alive. Like Ephemeral, she has joined the Fairhaven Frontier, surrounding herself with powerful allies.
Saelas - A wood elf fighter from the Forest Kingdoms, he had settled in Ard Glæs as a militiamen after leaving his lofty home. Serious and eager to take charge, Saelas helped set his companions on the path to recovery after their village was destroyed. Like Ephemeral and Maki, he has joined the Fairhaven Frontier, seeking revenge against the Order of the Scepter.
Paralictor Regill Derenge - A Hellknight paralictor of the Order of the Godclaw, this stoic and stone-faced gnome was dispatched from his Order's headquarters in the Worldwound to investigate the activities of the heretical Order of the Scepter. He has negotiated terms of cooperation with the Fairhaven Frontier, hoping that a joint effort can aid in striking a blow against the renegade Hellknights that he loathes.
Ozwik Irontusk - A founding member of the Fairhill Four, this half-orc warrior commands the power of stone and the earth, and commands his loyal manticore companion Nella in battle. He is supernaturally powerful thanks to his enchanted blade, the Stoneblade of the Lost Kingdom, and its accompanying belt of stone giant strength.   Ozwik serves as the unofficial guildmaster of the Fairhaven Frontier, and speaks to local governments on its behalf to garner potential recruits and clients. Resolute and blunt, yet kind and willing to guide the new recruits, Ozwik has welcomed the trio into the Frontier as its first members - including even the succubus Arueshalae.
Edea Lockehart - A founding member of the Fairhill Four, this young half-elven gunslinger is famed for her unerring accuracy with her twin pistols, as well as her supernaturally quick reflexes. As a member of the Frontier, Edea helps her mother with artificing, and also tends to the group's finances. She is the kindest and warmest of the Frontier, serving as the group's heart.   She warmly welcomed the new recruits to the Frontier, and got them set on a path befitting the guild's philosophy. She was particularly relieved by Ozwik's return, as it meant she no longer had to serve as interim leader.
Yzzan - A founding member of the Fairhill Four, this halfling barbarian with notable draconic features has known many faces. Once an ancient white dragon of phenomenal power, he was once forced into the guise of a human woman, and then briefly regained his true draconic form before sacrificing himself to save his companions. After being reincarnated by Hilda's druidic magic, he has become a halfling, though his new small stature does little to hide his innate pride and dedication to his fellows.   Yzzan is the martial specialist of the Fairhaven Frontier, and aids new recruits by instructing them in the art of battle.
Wyncaryn - A founding member of the Fairhill Four, this wood elf monk is an exemplar of tranquility and calmness. She tends the grounds of the Fairhaven Frontier's headquarters, and grows all of their produce (in addition to special crops for her own 'secret stashes'). She has adjusted quite well to life in the wilds, and finds ample time to relax and meditate in peace.   Having once nearly been killed by a deadly drow poison, she is in much better health these days.
Hilda Grimm - This plasmoid druid was encountered by the Fairhill Four during their excursion into the Undermountain beneath Revelmoore, and has stuck with them ever since. She is in fact the sentient soul of an elven witch of the same name, given form by fusing with demon ichor from the Abyss, and yet she remains kind and inquisitive as she awaits the reunion with her missing other half.   Despite her eccentric and abstracted nature, Hilda is the closest thing the Fairhaven Frontier has to an expert in the art of magic. When she is able to focus, she is a formidable spellcaster, capable of great power in her spellcraft.
Quistis Lockehart - Edea's mother. A wood elf who championed the ancient crafts of her people's golden age, she abandoned her daughter at a young age to pursue the lost secret of the old elves. She was rescued from an unending purgatory in the Undermountain by the Fairhill Four and reunited with her daughter. The two are working mending their relationship; in the meantime, Quistis has lent her considerable ability in artifice to the Fairhaven Frontier.
Doctor Gallen Goodsprings - A fast-talking, quick-witted forest gnome who serves as a doctor in the small village of Armengard. A medical genius, Gallen seems to have skills far beyond mere doctoring, capable of wielding both a dagger and vicious spells with equal deadliness. He has decided to join the Fairhaven Frontier to act as their resident doctor.
Vesper DeVir - A dark elf paladin, Knight of the Rose, and member of the adventuring party known as the Moonlighters. She is a chosen of Desna, and seeks to liberate her people from the oppressive grasp of Lolth. She is an associate of the Fairhaven Frontier after working with its leaders during an excursion to The Undermountain, and seeks their help once again for her religious pilgrimage, the Tranquil Voyage.
