Shyk
Cleric of the Hidden Vigil | Heir to the Watchers | Reluctant Voice of the Echoing Gate
“My parents called it keeping the night.
I think they meant keeping what sleeps inside it.”
OVERVIEW
Once a quiet healer from a mountain shrine, Shyk has become the last living thread of the The Watchers at Dusk —the order sworn to guard the Echoing Gate and keep its horrors bound.
He came to Leilon at Lord Darius Vexmoor 's summons, carrying only an inherited faith and a half-remembered song. Now, through trial and revelation, he knows that song for what it is: a prayer of sealing.
Since the Session 5 - The Restoration of Gray Beacon , his instincts have sharpened into purpose. In Nyelath's Grace , he learned that Shellsinger Nyrae once owed his parents a debt—and that his lineage is known even where the surface has forgotten. Each vision, each psychic tide, has pulled him closer to the truth his parents died to hide.
CURRENT STATUS
- Faith: The Hidden Vigil (legacy of the Watchers at Dusk)
- Role: Field priest, protector, interpreter of dream-omens
- Allies: Lady Cassandra Vexmoor ,Cassian Albright , Shellsinger Nyrae , Raelunai Zsvael
- Known Abilities: Dream-warding, psychic sealing rites, radiant restoration through binding sigils
- Goals:
- Uncover what the Watchers bound beneath the coast and why it stirs again.
- Determine whether the Echoing Gate can be re-sealed—or if it should be opened and ended.
PERSONALITY
Stoic, thoughtful, and weary of prophecy. Shyk speaks seldom but listens with sacred intent. He measures morality by consequence, not comfort. Though slow to anger, his compassion runs fierce and personal—especially toward those burdened by duty.
He mistrusts authority but respects conviction, a tension that often puts him between Cassian’s reason and Cassandra’s defiance.
Faith is the hammer. Doubt is where you aim it.
APPEARANCE
Broad-shouldered, sun-weathered, and carrying the quiet gravity of someone who has buried too many. His armor bears etchings of interlocking lanterns—the last emblem of the Watchers.
A chain of silver rings circles his wrist: one for each secret he keeps.
THEMES & RELATIONSHIPS
Lady Cassandra Vexmoor – Respects her courage, fears her compromises. Their friendship is forged in mutual fatigue and trust earned under pressure.
Shellsinger Nyrae – Sees in him the echo of old oaths. She trusts him instinctively, though neither fully understands why.
Cassian Albright – Mentor in pragmatism; Shyk mirrors his patience but not his politics.
The Watchers at Dusk – Once a myth to him; now a mantle he cannot lay down.
CURRENT CONFLICTS
- The Echoing Gate Stirs: Shyk’s dreams bleed into waking hours, suggesting the Gate’s seal is weakening, perhaps faster than it can be sealed.
- The Feystone Dilemma: He recognizes feystones as stabilizing anchors in the Gate’s prison—yet Leilon trades them away for survival.
- Moral Isolation: His companions look to him for guidance, but his faith teaches silence. Every answer he gives feels like betrayal of either truth or trust.

Sidebar: Legacy of the Watchers
“He prays like a man remembering a song he was never taught.”
Shyk’s parents never spoke of their faith. To neighbors, they were quiet followers of Moradin, devout in the way of dwarven hearth and hammer.
But behind closed doors, their prayers took stranger forms — binding chants, salt-ring wards, and whispered names never meant for mortal tongues.
They were members of the The Watchers at Dusk , the secret order that kept the Echoing Gate sealed for millennia.
When the The Cult of the Dragon began hunting the Watchers, Shyk’s parents buried every trace of their true calling. Even their son was kept ignorant, protected by deliberate silence.
Only recently has Shyk begun to uncover fragments of the truth — the order’s name, its purpose, and the realization that his own divine gift may be the echo of an oath his parents died to keep.
