Broad City
Overview
Broad City is the capital of the Central American Unitary Zone, located southeast of the Great Lake Industrial Area on the eastern seaboard. It has a population of 28 million humans, 11 million of which are mechanically changed, and all of which are chemically changed. It is the biggest producer of synthesized metal and synthesized chemicals on the eastern half of the continent, rivaled only by Bay City on the Western Seaboard. Broad City is known for its tall, soaring Grand District, its seemingly endless fields of factories, and the broad Rusty River that splits it in two. Its biggest metal export is pure synthesized Aquilium {120th element of the Periodic Table} in liquid form, used for the cooling of mining machines, and its biggest chemical export is the Pinnium {132nd element} based molecule dipinnustriaquil {Pi2Aq3}, which is used to fuel the synthesis of lifeforce in the Amazon Zone. It is home to the headquarters of the Synthetic Printing Company, the first newspaper to use synthetic paper, and the richest man in the Central American Unitary Zone, Overseer Dimitri Laufman.Districts
The Factory Sector
The largest of Broad City’s defined sectors, the Factory Sector takes up roughly 300 square miles of the 1000 square mile city. There are only a few streets in the Factory Sector, and even these are just for specialty vehicles that move sensitive or important cargo. Most input and output materials as well as the workers move to and from the factories on rail-cars.The Factory Sector is mostly made up of traditional hybrid factories. They sport roofs covered in plants that are interspersed with solar paneling that stand in stark contrast to the spotless metallic architecture below, as well as the glass and gear filled innards of the factories. Those that produce Aquilium are home to many thousands of transparent tubes and 3,000-degree plus boilers that labor to produce one of the metals that keeps almost all synthesized life going.
The Energy Sector
The second largest of Broad City’s defined sectors, the Energy Sector takes up roughly 250 square miles of the 1000 square mile city. It is mostly situated on or over the Rusty River, marking an informal boundary between the lush greenery of the Factory Sector and the metallic skytouchers of the Residential Sectors with its starkly bright architecture that glows in the night. The Energy Sector is mostly made up of enormously powerful Haas-Pennier hydroelectric stations, sporting their famous deep, metallic blue Challengium cladding and great webs of power-carrying wires.
