History

Lyra met Mrs. Swifte when she was 13 and looking for treasure in Crenel Hills using a fake map that her sister Zela gave her. Lyra erroneously thought that the treasure was located in the alcove that Mrs. Swifte lived in, so Lyra broke all of the bear traps that were laid down to combat the bears that lived in the area on her quest for treasure. Ms. Swifte conscripted Lyra into doing errands for her to make up for breaking her traps, and Lyra quickly discovered that this cranky old woman was actually the owner and maker of her mother's favorite tea Syrup, Purple Gold. After spending a lot of time together, Mrs. Swifte began to show Lyra how she makes her swift violet-flavored confections, which Lyra was all too happy to learn. Over the years, Lyra and Mrs. Swifte continued to keep in contact until the old woman finally died. With Mrs. Swifte's death, Lyra was left control over the Purple Gold brand, much to the disappointment and confusion of her still living son.
