The False Ocean
The False Ocean is the name given to the clouds of shadow which lie upon the land. It covers everything and ebbs and flows like a real ocean, yet can be entered by those who are brave enough. Most civilisations used to live below the False Ocean before the shadow came, forcing them to higher ground, where they rebuilt and live now.
The clouds serve as the greatest barrier between the newly formed 'islands' of the new civilisations. The darkness makes navigation extremely difficult, and getting lost is as great a risk as the shadowspawn.
Geography
Below the clouds, or rather in the clouds, the world is dark. Not black, but a world of eternal twilight, as the sun, both moons and the stars manage to penetrate and disperse just as effectively as one another. It is also cold, and damp. Some regions have become marshland, while other, higher climbs are great forests. The deepest valleys are the coldest and darkest, lands of winter with very little to light the way.
The different races settled on different terrain after their final retreat from the shadow. The Centaurs and Simada live on plains, which become flooded periodically by the clouds, with permanent dwellings on the rounded hills dotted around the landscape. The humans chose steep mountainsides, while the Lo-Pang live in and on vast columns of rock, which stand proudly above the clouds.
