Necromania

It is a secretive and theocratic nation located within the Frozen Peaks and deep valleys of the Dreaded Mountains on the Eastern continent. It is governed by a religious hierarchy centered around the worship of Exa’nus, the goddess of death. The nation’s political and spiritual authority is embodied by the High Priestess, regarded as the divine child of Exa’nus, and the ruling Lich-council composed of thirteen powerful Arch-lichs. The capital city, Khramovgorod, is a fortified mountain metropolis that serves as the political, spiritual, and cultural heart of Necromania. The Narods, an ancient elven race with a profound connection to death and necromancy, form the core of its society. Necromania is characterized by its dark architecture, advanced necromantic rituals, and a society that venerates death as a sacred transition rather than an end.

Structure

At the pinnacle of Necromania’s political and spiritual hierarchy stands the High Priestess, a figure revered as the divine child of Exa’nus, embodying the goddess’s eternal youth and power. Her authority extends directly over the capital city of Khramovgorod and its surrounding territories, serving as both spiritual leader and political ruler.

Beneath her, the nation is divided into thirteen distinct territories, each governed by an Arch-lich. These Arch-lichs are powerful undead sorcerers who have achieved near-immortality through dark rituals, and they serve as both administrators and spiritual custodians of their respective regions. Each Arch-lich commands a formidable retinue: five lesser Lichs, ten priests, and thirty Death Knights. These retinues serve various functions, from maintaining order and enforcing religious doctrine to conducting rituals and waging war.

The High Priestess’s retinue is notably larger, comprising double the number of each retinue element—ten lesser Lichs, twenty priests, and sixty Death Knights—reflecting her supreme authority and the central role she plays in both governance and religious worship.

The Lich-council, consisting of the 13 Arch-lichs, functions as the governing body of Necromania. They advise the High Priestess, coordinate their territories’ activities, and oversee the implementation of the state religion’s doctrines. Their combined power makes them formidable rulers, often engaging in political intrigue and power struggles beneath the surface.

Culture

The culture of Necromania is deeply rooted in the reverence of death and the divine power of Exa’nus, the goddess of death. Central to their society is a spiritual worldview that views death not as an end, but as a sacred passage and a necessary part of the cosmic balance. The Narods, the primary inhabitants, uphold strict rituals, sacred rites, and a hierarchy of spiritual mastery that emphasizes purity, knowledge of necromancy, and ancestral reverence.

Narods are highly secretive and reclusive, valuing esoteric knowledge, ritual purity, and spiritual discipline. Their society is patriarchal, with elders and high priests guiding the community through sacred ceremonies. Necromancy, shadow magic, and forbidden rituals are not only religious practices but also cultural pillars, used to honor Exa’nus and maintain the balance between life and death.

Their architecture, art, and rituals reflect their somber aesthetic, often featuring dark gemstones, bone talismans, and ritual carvings. Temples and sacred sites are labyrinthine, dark, and filled with relics dedicated to Exa’nus and her divine children. Music, poetry, and storytelling often revolve around themes of mortality, renewal, and the eternal cycle of death and rebirth.
