The Verdant infiltrated the Ogun River delta, worsened by flooding in the Lagos outskirts of Nigeria. Verdant mats spread across fishing villages, then surged into Lagos suburbs Ikorodu and Epe. Attempts at mass evacuation snarled in traffic jams, with entire highways swallowed by root bursts. The Verdancy surged into the city at 15km/day. Approximately 5 million were dead or Hollowed, and survivors described Hollowed moving through overrun marketplaces, chanting in broken, vine-choked voices. Lagos became the largest urban collapse before Delhi. Refugee streams spread across West Africa, destabilizing the region and forcing Sahel salt-flat settlements to expand.
