The Seasons

Out of all the differences in all the worlds within the Cosmos, seasons are, surprisingly, not one of them. Whether the thing changing were the temperature, water buoyancy, the magic in the air, or the colour of this one really specific beaver, something in every world, beyond the day/night cycle, should one exist, is cyclic by year, something you can set a clock by. Most often it's the temperature and climate, inspired by the world Kyra'Ora visited before the Cosmos became something other than a vat of stars, but there are a few experimental planets with something far different.

Dukiana, for example, had its gravity change. Summer would bring extreme anti-gravity, and winter would have such intense gravity that it would be hard to move. Another example is all three parts of Terra. In Aria, The Empty Alchemical Soul beats faster in the summer, and it stirs almost to a stop in the winter. In Strix, crops flourish in the summer and nearly fail in the winter. In Flora, seasons are normal, hotter in summer and colder in winter.

But why is such a thing normal throughout so many different worlds? Until the gods of the seasons, Vitale, Automne, Shui, and August, found The Godship, most assumed it was just another thing carried over from the other universe. And while, yes, the gods of seasons were originally inspired by that universe, the normal could go from climate and temperature to how much a reassurance bucket gives charisma to the person holding it if the gods of seasons wished.

But that would greatly impact how the gods felt, for the seasons are based on a mutual agreement of their favourite temperatures and certain things they enjoy. Vitale loves middling temperatures and flowers, but her groundless dislike for Saoirse led her to fill her season with inordinate amounts of pollen, choking anyone who dares share the unfortunate allergy with the goddess of life. Automne likes warmth and colours, but hates green and gets bored of the same temperatures easily. He may enjoy warmth in his season for a month or two, but he gets bored towards the end and switches it to cold, sometimes rather abruptly. Shui enjoys snow, loves the cold, and could not care less about crops. August, Shui's sheer opposite, loves heat and enjoys the cool of water after having his skin scalded by the sun.

But if the gods of seasons ever got truly bored of their seasons, they would change. Summer could be summer while winter could become a void where haunting music plays.

It is best to hope they do not get truly bored.
