The Archivist
Career
Qualifications
While not technically required, the gods of travels, nomads, adventures, knowledge, and wisdom often take this role. If more than one person wishes to apply for this role, the god which is on the aforementioned list will be selected, in that order. There are many factors that go into this casting, however, and even the god of travels will not be tolerated if they are lazy or apathetic.
Payment & Reimbursement
"The knowledge is its own payment" -Wisdom
While the Archivist will likely say things along those lines, there is a payment other than knowledge. Given currency doesn't truly exist on The Godship, money from a location of their choice is granted in great values. While the intent was to give the Archivist a chance to buy things from the mortal world to bring back to the Godship for themself, most Archivists refuse to use this outside of their career. It is a passion career, after all.
Perception
Purpose
Even The Cosmos cannot see all the worlds hold. Not that they would want to, anyway. Given The Cosmos is the closest any of the gods are to omniscient, even over a single planet, much less the whole of the Cosmos. So, in order to maintain peace in the universe, and even on planets, should certain regions be separated, an Archivist must be employed to collect information. They travel through every nook and cranny in every world every hundred or less years, detailing what the world is and has been in many comprehensive travelogues. Sometimes they're even published so the world can learn about itself and remember its history. On occasion, should the Archivist desire, they will aid other gods in making decisions to secure peace in the Cosmos.
Or as much peace can exist in a realm governed by overdue grievances and ill intent.
Social Status
Archivists are well-respected and loved amongst the gods who wish for peace. And as for the gods who do not care for or would not benefit from peace, they at worst despise the Archivist. For the amount of work the Archivist does, most gods would turn against one who disrespects such a role.
History
There used to be a lot of switches between who the Archivist was. While travelling as a career sounds more exciting than watching a planet exist, it can get stressful over the course of decades. None of the Archivists particularly enjoyed travelling enough to do it as much as an Archivist would need to, so an agreement was made to have one Archivist take one sweep of the planets, another Archivist to take the next, so on so forth until no more applicable gods remained and the list looped. As such, all records were horribly disjointed, hence the reason many early histories on planets are much more violent than the present. This continued, until one day a new god of travels was appointed. Their name is Keshainlainye, but they generally go by The Traveller. Enjoying their role, they became the permanent Archivist and still are to this day, although they are now accompanied by the new goddess of adventure, Seren. She does not, however, do any record-keeping, for she would surely lose it within a day of writing it--quicker if she was alone.
Operations
Tools
For proper record-keeping, and Archivist is given the infinite book of omniscient knowledge, a bottomless inkwell, and a very durable quill. Whether the inkwell and quill are used, however, is completely up to the Archivist. Some odd things have been used as writing materials, wet rocks being among them. The Archivist is also given enough funds to last, although they will quickly be granted more should they need them. Any other needed materials will be supplied as needed.
Dangers & Hazards
The general hazards while working with mortals apply. This includes but is not limited to: death by golden knife, 'death' by implement other than golden knife, being hunted by plague worms (Although I suppose you can thank Fiore for this one; it isn't really a mortal thing.), being robbed, losing everything, being bitten by a vampire, getting famous for such 'works of fiction', allergies, spontaneous combustion, having magic drained at a rapid rate through experimental technology, and whatever else goes on in mortal worlds. It is truly unpredictable out there, and to hold protection against all potential calamities would be to quite literally suffocate under the weight of your own anxieties.
Some mortals may find such observance deeply disturbing if they knew just how detailed they were being written about, but it is, by standards in almost all worlds, legal. It is explicitly legal in the Godship, and that is, given the context of the profession, all that matters in the end.
