Split Soul

Transmission & Vectors

There are various tellings of how a soul is split, but only those gods who cause it know. There are some simplistic, and generally incorrect, versions of the cause, but those would lead to another, more deadly result to something that was created by mistake.

In an attempt to deeply simplify the process so those looking into The Godship may better understand the execution of such a concept, when one splits the soul of a god, they draw upon a sharp reserve of power contradicting that which the god with their soul being split stands for, and drawing it between the two halves of their personality and their being. Herbal technology, generally the type used by Vex in her religious conversion, is deployed into the soul in order for the two halves to forget their bond. This is the way the minds also forget everything once split. When the soul is completely shattered, its complete nature forgotten, the body is turned into two, representing what of the mind was pushed to the front, and what was shoved to the back.

This process takes less than a second, a great deal of energy, and weeks upon weeks of practice.

Prevention

Either don't anger one of your fellow gods (particularly the vengeant ones) or seal your soul in something far enough away from your body that it cannot be found by those you anger. Both are rather uncomfortable, but they are better options than becoming two people without a sense of self.

History

Many people say that the idea of soul splitting was created by Saoirse-Roselyn, as she was the first person this method was successfully used on, creating Saoirse and Roselyn. In addition, Saoirse-Roselyn often performed experiments on deceased souls to see what could happen in an attempt to create new forms of life that could exist on their own. While her notes do detail that souls can be split, Phoenix, a god hostile to her since she would not entertain his ideas of 'infallibly perfect life', was the one who found a way to split a god's soul. Exacting vengeance on her for not wavering to his demands, he held a public trial for a false claim, pretending she split her own soul to avoid her own actions. This was the first recorded use of such a power.

Other gods who have used this (albeit on themselves), and their reasons, include Adi (Adhaya and Hiadei) who wished to separate complicated concepts for the mortals on their planet (this only ended in disaster for the two halves of Adi and Mist (Mist and Dolorous) who tried to keep her power after being killed, although this hardly successful attempt led to Dolorous' power being corrupted and occasionally overtaken by Mist.

The gods with split souls generally have no memories, and the whole that once was does not gain the memories of the split souls. Eventually, the split souls will become such different people that they may either lose connections, become enemies, or the world around them forgets that they were once the same person. Generally, it is the third option, as there is no recognized way to reunite the two halves of the soul. There has however, been one incident where a split soul has been temporarily mended. While away from the Godship, Saoirse and Roselyn temporarily became Saoirse-Roselyn once more, although she lacked the memories of Saoirse and Roselyn. After she returned to the Godship, the mending of the soul lasted for a few days before she was split once more, the two halves retaining their memories but lacking those of Saoirse-Roselyn.

To this day, no one knows how it happened.
